Introduction

Observe the shift from physical gifts to cash. State intent to discuss causes and argue it is positive.

It is true that the traditional practice of selecting physical presents is increasingly being replaced by the gifting of cash. This essay will discuss the reasons for this transition and argue that it is a positive development for both the giver and the recipient.

Causes: 1. Practicality/avoidance of unwanted gifts. 2. Time constraints/busy modern lifestyles.

A major cause of this situation is the desire for practicality and the avoidance of waste in a consumerist society. Many people now prefer to give money to ensure that the recipient can purchase exactly what they need, rather than receiving a redundant or unwanted physical item. Another factor that this problem can be attributed to is the fast-paced nature of modern life. With long working hours, many individuals simply do not have the time to browse stores for the 'perfect' gift, making cash a convenient and efficient alternative.

Evaluation (Positive): 1. Greater utility/financial freedom for the recipient. 2. Environmental benefits (less waste/clutter).

In my view, this is a positive development because it maximizes the utility of the gift. Money allows the recipient to put the funds toward a significant purchase or a long-term goal, such as a vacation or a savings account, which provides more lasting value than a physical object. Furthermore, it reduces the environmental impact associated with unwanted goods. By eliminating the cycle of buying, returning, or discarding unused presents, cash gifts contribute to a more sustainable and less cluttered lifestyle for everyone involved.

Conclusion

Summarize causes (practicality and time) and positive evaluation (utility and sustainability).

In conclusion, the need for practicality and a lack of free time are the primary reasons for the rise of cash gifts. I believe this is a positive trend as it offers better value for the recipient and helps reduce unnecessary waste.
