Introduction

Paraphrase prompt (some believe nuclear weapons benefit the world). State strong disagreement with this view.

There exists a school of thought that advocates for the benefits of nuclear weapons on a global scale. I find myself in complete disagreement with this perspective.

Body 1 · Against benefits

Topic sentence: Disastrous impact of nuclear weapons. Point 1: Destruction (Hiroshima/Nagasaki). Point 2: Long-lasting effects (radiation).

My primary objection stems from the catastrophic consequences that nuclear weapons can unleash. The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II serve as stark reminders of the devastation that such weapons can cause, resulting in the loss of hundreds of thousands of lives and the destruction of entire cities. Moreover, the long-term effects of radiation exposure continue to impact the health and wellbeing of survivors and their descendants, underscoring the enduring harm of nuclear warfare.

Body 2 · Against benefits

Topic sentence: Create climate of fear and hostility. Point 1: Arms race/tension (Cold War example). Point 2: Wasted military spending.

Secondly, the existence of nuclear weapons fosters an atmosphere of fear and hostility among nations. The Cold War era, characterized by the nuclear arms race between the United States and the Soviet Union, was a period of heightened tension and paranoia. This climate of fear not only strained international relations but also diverted vast resources towards military expenditure, which could have been better utilized for social and economic development.

Body 3 · Against benefits

Topic sentence: Risk of misuse by dangerous groups. Point 1: Threat of nuclear terrorism (non-state groups). Point 2: Potential global chaos.

Lastly, the risk of nuclear weapons falling into the wrong hands cannot be overlooked. With the rise of non-state actors and terrorist organizations, the threat of nuclear terrorism is a chilling reality. The potential misuse of these weapons by such entities could lead to unprecedented global chaos and destruction, further emphasizing the dangers of nuclear proliferation.

Conclusion

Summarize main arguments against benefits (suffering, fear, misuse). Restate strong disagreement.

In conclusion, I firmly oppose the notion that nuclear weapons confer any benefits to the world. The immense human suffering they can cause, the climate of fear they engender among nations, and the potential for their misuse by nefarious entities all underscore the perilous nature of these weapons.
