It is a common observation that mathematics is often the most disliked subject among students in schools worldwide. This essay will explore the reasons behind this aversion and propose some effective methods to foster a love for the subject.

Body 1 · View 1

Causes: 1. Abstract curriculum/lack of real-world relevance. 2. Rote learning and exam pressure leading to anxiety.

A major cause of this situation is the abstract nature of the mathematical curriculum and a lack of real-world application. Students often struggle to see how complex algebraic formulas or geometric proofs relate to their daily lives, which leads to boredom and a lack of motivation. Another factor that this problem can be attributed to is the traditional method of rote learning and high-pressure testing. When maths is taught solely through repetitive drills and examined through stressful exams, it creates an environment of anxiety rather than one of curiosity and discovery.

Body 2 · View 2

Solutions: 1. Contextualizing maths with practical examples (finance/design). 2. Gamification and interactive apps to lower stress.

However, there are various solutions available to address this problem. One would be for educators to integrate practical, real-life examples into their lessons. By showing how maths is used in fields like architecture, video game design, or personal finance, teachers can make the subject more relevant and engaging for students. Another way to combat this issue is by utilizing gamification and interactive technology. Educational apps and math-based games can transform difficult concepts into fun challenges, allowing students to learn at their own pace in a low-stress environment.

Conclusion

Summarize causes (abstractness and stress) and solutions (relevance and gamification).

In conclusion, the abstractness of the subject and stressful teaching methods are why many children hate maths. Not until practical applications are shown and interactive learning is adopted will students truly enjoy the subject.
