Introduction

Introduce the idea of replacing books with multimedia in schools. State clear disagreement.

The debate over whether traditional textbooks should be replaced by multimedia tools such as films, computers, and educational games is increasingly relevant in the digital age. I strongly disagree with the idea that these technologies should entirely replace books in the classroom.

Body 1

Discuss cognitive benefits of books. Explain how reading develops focus and imagination compared to the passive nature of some digital media.

The primary reason for my disagreement is that books are essential for developing deep focus and critical thinking skills. Reading a book requires a level of sustained attention and imagination that is often absent when consuming digital media. While films and games provide immediate visual stimulation, books encourage students to process information at their own pace and build complex mental models of the subject matter. This cognitive effort is vital for academic success, particularly in subjects that require logical reasoning and detailed analysis. A classroom without books risks producing students who are easily distracted and lack the patience for deep study.

Body 2

Discuss the reliability and structure of books. Argue that multimedia can be a distraction and that books offer a permanent, focused learning foundation.

Furthermore, while multimedia tools are valuable supplements, they cannot replace the structural benefits of a well-written textbook. Books provide a permanent and organized reference that students can return to without the need for electricity or internet access. Computers and games, while engaging, can often become distractions if not strictly monitored, leading students to focus more on the entertainment aspect rather than the educational content. A balanced approach where multimedia is used to illustrate concepts and books are used for fundamental learning is far more effective. Relying solely on technology would ignore the proven educational value that printed materials have provided for centuries.

Conclusion

Restate disagreement. Summarize that focus and reliability are the main reasons books must remain central to education.

In conclusion, I disagree that schools should replace books with multimedia. This is because books are better for developing concentration and they provide a more reliable and focused foundation for learning.
