The bar chart illustrates the proportion of men and women who were employed as academic staff in different faculties at a prominent university in 2016.
At a glance, it is clear that the distribution of male and female staff varied significantly across the faculties. The faculties of Engineering and IT had predominantly male staff, while the faculties of Education and Health Sciences had a higher proportion of female staff.
Looking more closely, the Engineering faculty had the highest disparity, with males making up approximately 85% of the academic staff, leaving only 15% as females. Similarly, in the IT faculty, males constituted around 80% of the staff. On the other hand, the Education faculty was predominantly female, with women making up about 70% of the staff. The Health Sciences faculty also had a higher percentage of women, at around 60%.
In the remaining faculties, namely Business and Law, the distribution was more balanced, with approximately equal proportions of male and female staff. In the Business faculty, males represented around 52% of the staff, while in the Law faculty, the figure was roughly 50%.
