The bar chart illustrates the mean cost per kilometre of apparel imported into the European Union from six distinct nations in the years 1993 and 2003.
The general trend observed from the graph is that the average prices of clothing imports per kilometre increased over the decade for all countries except China. Additionally, Turkey and Morocco had the lowest prices in both years, while China had the highest in 1993 but the lowest in 2003.
In 1993, China's average import price was the highest at around €9 per kilometre, but it dramatically fell to just over €1 in 2003. In contrast, Turkey and Morocco had the lowest prices in 1993, approximately €1.5 and €2 respectively, but by 2003, both had seen a moderate increase, with Turkey's price rising to nearly €3 and Morocco's to slightly above €4.
The remaining three countries, India, Bangladesh, and Tunisia, all experienced a rise in import prices over the ten-year period. India's price rose from around €3 to €5, Bangladesh's from just under €2 to slightly over €3, and Tunisia's from about €2.5 to nearly €4. Despite these increases, all three countries remained cheaper than China in 1993 but more expensive than China in 2003.
