4 to 5 minutes. The examiner asks about you and familiar topics.

Introduction · Q1

Can you tell me your full name?

Introduction · Q2

Where are you from?

Introduction · Q3

Do you work or are you a student?

Being Bored · Q1

What do you do when you feel bored?

When I feel bored, I like to engage in activities that challenge my mind or keep me physically active. This could be anything from reading a book or solving a puzzle, to going for a run or hitting the gym. I find that engaging in these kinds of activities helps to alleviate boredom and keep me mentally and physically stimulated.

Being Bored · Q2

What kind of things are boring to you?

To be honest, I don't really find many things boring. I tend to be a very curious and adventurous person, so I enjoy exploring new things and trying out new experiences. However, I will say that I do find it boring when I am forced to do something that doesn't interest me or that feels repetitive and monotonous.

Being Bored · Q3

Whom do you think get bored more easily, the young or the old?

I think this really depends on the individual. Some young people may be more easily bored because they are still exploring and discovering what interests them, while others may be more engaged and curious about the world around them. On the other hand, some older individuals may be more prone to boredom because they have already experienced a lot of what life has to offer and may feel like they have less to discover. Ultimately, I think it comes down to the individual's personality and interests.

Being Bored · Q4

Do you think school is boring?

Again, this really depends on the individual and their perspective. Some people may find school boring because they struggle with certain subjects or feel like they are not being challenged enough. Others may find school exciting and engaging because they are learning new things and engaging with their peers. Personally, I found school to be a mix of both - there were certainly moments when I found it boring, but overall I enjoyed the learning process and the social interactions I had with my classmates.

Neighbors · Q1

How well do you know the people who live next door to you?

I would say that I know them quite well. We frequently have casual conversations when we run into each other outside, and we've even had a few dinner parties together. They are a nice couple and we get along well.

Neighbors · Q2

How often do you see them?

I see them at least a few times a week. Sometimes we'll have a quick chat when we're leaving for work or coming home, or we'll run into each other in the shared garden.

Neighbors · Q3

What kinds of problem do people sometimes have with their neighbours?

Some common issues that people have with their neighbours include noise complaints, disputes over property lines or shared spaces, and differences in lifestyle or values. These issues can range from minor annoyances to major conflicts that can cause a lot of stress.

Neighbors · Q4

How do you think neighbours can help each other?

I think that neighbours can help each other in a variety of ways. One of the most important things is to be considerate and respectful of each other's needs and boundaries. Neighbours can also help each other by being open to communication and working together to resolve any issues that may arise. Additionally, neighbours can help each other by being there for each other in times of need, such as offering assistance during emergencies or lending a helping hand with tasks like gardening or moving.

Part 3 · Discussion

4 to 5 minutes. The examiner asks broader questions linked to the cue card topic.

Discussion · Q1

How do positive service experiences in various fields, like hotels and stores, influence what customers expect?

Experiences of good service in various industries can significantly elevate customer expectations. When individuals receive exceptional treatment in hospitality, like a warm welcome or personalized attention, they naturally start to anticipate that same level of service elsewhere, be it in retail or dining. This sets a high benchmark for what they consider acceptable. Moreover, as consumers increasingly share their experiences online, businesses are pressured to raise their standards to compete effectively. Ultimately, these positive experiences create a cycle where customers become more discerning, pushing industries to constantly innovate and improve their service offerings.

Discussion · Q2

Some people believe that good service is very important, while others think it matters less. What reasons could explain these different opinions?

That's a fascinating question! I think the differing views on the importance of high levels of service can be influenced by several factors. For instance, people who have experienced exceptional service in the past may develop a strong expectation for it in the future, believing it significantly enhances their overall experience. On the other hand, individuals who prioritize value for money might feel that as long as the basic needs are met, the service level becomes secondary. Additionally, cultural backgrounds play a key role; in some cultures, hospitality is a deeply ingrained value, making high service standards more critical. Ultimately, it boils down to personal priorities and past experiences, which shape how we perceive the value of service.

Discussion · Q3

How do you think great customer service affects a company's reputation and success over time?

Good customer service is absolutely pivotal in shaping a company’s reputation and ensuring its long-term success. When customers feel valued and supported, they are more likely to share their positive experiences, which can lead to a strong word-of-mouth effect. This kind of organic promotion can significantly enhance a brand’s image, making it more appealing to potential customers. Moreover, excellent customer service often fosters customer loyalty, encouraging repeat business and creating a loyal customer base that can be invaluable over time. Ultimately, companies that prioritize customer care not only stand out in a competitive market but also build a resilient brand that can weather economic fluctuations.

Discussion · Q4

Why do you think some businesses focus more on customer service than on things like product quality or price?

I believe that some businesses prioritize customer service because it can be a powerful differentiator in today’s competitive market. While product quality and pricing are undeniably important, exceptional customer service can create a loyal customer base that feels valued and appreciated. This emotional connection often leads to repeat business and positive word-of-mouth, which can be far more beneficial than just a one-time sale. Additionally, in an era where consumers have access to endless choices, outstanding service can often tip the scales in favor of a brand, even if their products are slightly more expensive. Ultimately, businesses recognize that a satisfied customer is likely to return and recommend their services to others, making customer service a vital investment.

Discussion · Q5

How could using more technology in service jobs change the quality of how customers interact in the future?

The increasing use of technology in service industries is likely to transform the quality of customer interactions in fascinating ways. On one hand, we could see a significant enhancement in efficiency and responsiveness, as automation and AI can handle routine inquiries quickly, allowing human employees to focus on more complex issues. This could lead to a more personalized experience for customers, as staff will have more time to engage meaningfully with them. However, there's also the concern that over-reliance on technology might lead to a sense of disconnection and a lack of genuine human touch, which is essential in building strong customer relationships. Ultimately, striking the right balance will be crucial to ensure that technology serves as a tool to enhance rather than replace authentic interactions.

Discussion · Q6

What steps can companies take to improve their customer service and make sure customers are happy?

To enhance customer service and ensure customer satisfaction, companies can implement a few key measures. Firstly, investing in comprehensive training programs for employees is crucial; well-trained staff are more equipped to handle queries and resolve issues efficiently. Additionally, leveraging technology, such as chatbots and CRM systems, can streamline communication and provide customers with immediate assistance. It's also important for companies to actively seek and act on customer feedback, as this shows that they value client opinions and are committed to continuous improvement. Finally, establishing a culture of customer-centricity within the organization can foster loyalty and make customers feel appreciated, ultimately leading to a more satisfying experience overall.
