Speaking test #013
Part 1 · Interview
4 to 5 minutes. The examiner asks about you and familiar topics.
Can you tell me your full name?
Where are you from?
Do you work or are you a student?
Are you a patient person?
I would say that I am generally a patient person, but like anyone, my patience can be tested at times. I try to maintain a sense of equanimity in the face of adversity and not let my emotions dictate my reactions.
Were you patient when you were young?
I must admit that when I was younger, I was not always as patient as I am now. As a child, I was quite impulsive and would often act without thinking things through. However, as I have grown older, I have learned the value of patience and have made a conscious effort to cultivate it in myself.
How do you feel when people are not patient?
When others around me are not patient, it can be quite frustrating. I understand that everyone has their own pace and way of doing things, but when someone is consistently impatient, it can make it difficult to communicate and work effectively with them.
How does your mood affect your patience?
My mood can certainly have an impact on my patience. If I am in a good mood, I am more likely to be patient and understanding of others. However, if I am feeling stressed or overwhelmed, my patience may be more easily tested. In these instances, I try to take a step back, take a deep breath, and remind myself to stay calm and keep things in perspective.
Do you usually use a pen or a pencil?
I usually use a pen, as I find it to be a more efficient and reliable writing instrument. The ink flows smoothly and the lines are consistent, which helps me to take clear and legible notes.
When was the last time you bought a pen or pencil?
The last time I bought a pen was about a week ago. I needed a new one for a meeting and decided to purchase a sleek, black ballpoint pen that I thought would make a good impression.
How would you feel if someone give you pen or pencil as a gift?
I would feel quite touched if someone gave me a pen or pencil as a gift. It might seem like a small and insignificant thing, but it would show that the person put thought and effort into choosing something that they knew I would appreciate.
Why do you think most teachers would teach the students to learn to write in pen?
I believe that most teachers would teach students to write in pen because it is a more permanent and professional way of writing. Pen writing is considered more formal and has more authority than pencil writing. Additionally, it is important for students to learn how to write in pen, as it will prepare them for real-world situations where writing in pen is expected, such as in job interviews or formal documents.
You will have to talk about the topic for one to two minutes. You have one minute to think about what you are going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.

4 to 5 minutes. The examiner asks broader questions linked to the cue card topic.
How do different cultures affect people's sense of fashion?
Different cultures significantly shape the sense of fashion by introducing diverse styles, colors, and textiles that reflect their unique heritage. For instance, traditional garments like the Japanese kimono or the Indian sari not only serve as beautiful attire but also convey stories and values intrinsic to those cultures. Furthermore, as global communication has increased, elements from various cultures are often blended, leading to a vibrant fusion of styles that appeal to a broader audience. This cultural exchange allows individuals to express their identity while also embracing influences from around the world, making fashion a truly dynamic and ever-evolving form of self-expression. Ultimately, the interplay between culture and fashion is a fascinating testament to how interconnected we all are in our global society.
How much can a person's looks show their personality or lifestyle choices?
One’s appearance can significantly reflect their personality and lifestyle choices, though it’s not always a definitive indicator. For instance, someone who dresses in vibrant colors and eclectic styles may convey a sense of adventurousness or creativity, while a more minimalist wardrobe might suggest a preference for simplicity and order. Additionally, personal grooming and hygiene can reveal how much someone values self-care and their overall attitude towards life. However, it’s essential to remember that appearances can be deceiving; someone might dress a certain way for practical reasons rather than to express their true self. Ultimately, while there’s a connection between appearance and personality, it's just one piece of a much larger puzzle.
How important do you think fashion is in forming a person's social identity?
Fashion plays a remarkably significant role in shaping a person's social identity. It serves as a form of self-expression, allowing individuals to convey their values, beliefs, and even their mood. For instance, someone who embraces minimalist fashion might be perceived as someone who values simplicity and practicality, while a person who opts for bold, eclectic styles may be viewed as creative and adventurous. Additionally, fashion can act as a social marker, helping people to connect with like-minded individuals and establish a sense of belonging within a particular group. Ultimately, the way we dress not only reflects who we are but also influences how we are perceived by others in society.
Why do you think some people choose style over comfort in their everyday lives?
That's a fascinating question! I believe many people prioritize fashion over comfort because they see clothing as a form of self-expression. For some, wearing trendy outfits is a way to showcase their personality and creativity, which can be incredibly empowering. Additionally, in today's image-driven society, there's often a perception that looking fashionable can lead to positive social recognition and even professional opportunities. Many individuals feel that being well-dressed can enhance their confidence and influence how others perceive them, which is a compelling motivator to sacrifice comfort for style. Ultimately, it’s a balancing act, and while comfort is important, the allure of fashion can be hard to resist!
What shifts could we expect in fashion styles in the next ten years?
Fashion is such a dynamic field, and I think we can expect some fascinating changes over the next decade. One major trend could be the rise of sustainable fashion, as more consumers become environmentally conscious and demand ethically produced clothing. Additionally, the integration of technology into fashion, like smart fabrics and augmented reality shopping experiences, is likely to become more prevalent. We might also see a shift towards gender-neutral clothing, as society continues to embrace inclusivity and break down traditional gender norms. Overall, the future of fashion appears to be a blend of creativity, technology, and social awareness, which is incredibly exciting!
What steps can be taken to encourage people to adopt sustainable fashion habits?
To promote sustainable fashion practices among consumers, a multifaceted approach is essential. Firstly, educational campaigns can play a pivotal role in raising awareness about the environmental impact of fast fashion. By providing information on the benefits of eco-friendly materials and ethical production processes, consumers can make more informed choices. Additionally, incentivizing sustainable purchases through discounts or loyalty programs can encourage shoppers to opt for brands that prioritize sustainability. Finally, fostering a community around sustainable fashion, perhaps through social media or local events, can help to create a culture where conscious consumerism is celebrated and embraced.
