Introduction · Q3

Do you work or are you a student?

Chocolate · Q1

Do you like chocolate? [Why / why not?

?] Oh absolutely, I'm a total chocoholic. There's just something about the rich, creamy taste that I can't resist. Plus, it's a great way to satisfy my sweet tooth.

Chocolate · Q2

What type of chocolate do you prefer? [Why?

?] I have a bit of a sweet tooth, so I tend to go for the really dark, rich chocolate. I find that it has a more intense flavor and it's less sweet, which I really enjoy. Plus, it's supposed to be healthier for you, so that's always a bonus.

Chocolate · Q3

When do you usually eat chocolate?

I don't really have a specific time when I eat chocolate. I pretty much enjoy it anytime, anywhere. Sometimes I'll have a little piece as a pick-me-up in the afternoon, or I'll have a little square as a dessert after dinner. It's just one of those things that's always good to have on hand.

Chocolate · Q4

Do people give chocolate as a present in your country? [When?

?] Yes, chocolate is definitely a popular gift in my country. It's a classic present for Valentine's Day, birthdays, and Christmas, and it's also a common gift for saying thank you or congratulating someone. Chocolate is just one of those things that always seems to put a smile on people's faces.

City Life · Q1

Do you like the city you are living in now? [Why?

?] Oh yeah, absolutely! I mean, it's not perfect by any means, but it's definitely got its charms. For one thing, it's got a really vibrant arts scene - there are always concerts and exhibitions and stuff like that happening, which I really enjoy. Plus, it's just really convenient for getting around - the public transport system is pretty efficient, and there's always a ton of stuff to do and see.

City Life · Q2

Do you prefer the city or the countryside? [Why?

?] That's a tough one. I think I could go either way, really. On the one hand, I love the fast-paced, energetic vibe of the city - there's always something going on, and I really thrive on that kind of energy. On the other hand, though, I also really appreciate the peace and quiet of the countryside. It's just so relaxing to be surrounded by all that open space and nature. I guess it just depends on my mood, really.

City Life · Q3

What kinds of city do you like? [Why?

?] I think I'm most drawn to cities that have a really unique character and sense of identity. Like, I love places that are really steeped in history and culture, and that have a really strong local community. I also really enjoy cities that are really diverse and multicultural - I find it really interesting to see how different cultures and traditions intersect and influence each other. Overall, I think it's just really important for a city to have a strong sense of place and identity.

City Life · Q4

Which city do you want to go to? [Why?

?] There are so many cities that I'd love to visit! Right now, I'm particularly interested in exploring more of Asia - I've always been fascinated by the different cultures and histories of the region, and there are so many amazing cities to explore. In particular, I'd love to visit Tokyo - I've heard that it's such a vibrant, dynamic city, with a really unique blend of traditional and modern elements. I'd also love to visit Seoul and Hong Kong - I think they'd both be really interesting to explore, with their own distinct identities and cultures.

Part 3 · Discussion

4 to 5 minutes. The examiner asks broader questions linked to the cue card topic.

Discussion · Q1

How can the meaning of a journey vary for different people?

The significance of a journey can vary immensely from person to person, largely depending on their personal experiences and what they’re seeking. For some, a journey might be a way to explore new cultures and broaden their horizons, offering a chance to broaden their perspectives and learn about the world. Others might view a journey as a form of self-discovery, using travel to reflect on their lives and make meaningful changes. Additionally, some individuals might embark on journeys for practical reasons, like relocating for work or visiting family, which can carry its own emotional weight. Ultimately, the essence of a journey often lies in the unique stories and lessons each person carries back with them.

Discussion · Q2

How important is it for people to visit new places to have new experiences?

Traveling to new places is incredibly beneficial for gaining new experiences, but I would argue that it isn't the only way to achieve this. When you embark on a journey to a different location, you immerse yourself in unique cultures, which can lead to profound personal growth and a broader worldview. Additionally, the thrill of navigating unfamiliar environments can ignite a sense of adventure that truly enriches your life. However, it's also important to recognize that new experiences can be found right at home, whether through local events, meeting diverse groups of people, or even trying out new hobbies. Ultimately, while travel offers unparalleled opportunities for exploration, the essence of gaining new experiences can also be discovered in our everyday surroundings.

Discussion · Q3

How can going to a special place change how someone views life?

Visiting a special place can profoundly transform a person's perspective on life in several ways. Firstly, it often allows individuals to experience cultural diversity, which can broaden their understanding of different ways of living and thinking. For instance, immersing oneself in a new environment can challenge preconceived notions and foster a sense of empathy towards others. Additionally, such experiences can evoke strong emotions, leading to personal growth and a deeper appreciation for one’s own life circumstances. Ultimately, these visits can inspire individuals to adopt a more open-minded approach, encouraging them to embrace change and seek out new opportunities.

Discussion · Q4

Why do you think people usually have deep feelings for specific places?

People often feel a strong emotional connection to certain locations because these places are intertwined with their personal memories and experiences. For instance, a childhood home or a favorite vacation spot can evoke feelings of nostalgia and happiness, as they represent significant moments in a person's life. Additionally, locations can symbolize cultural heritage and community, allowing individuals to feel rooted and connected to their history. The sensory aspects of a place, like its sights, sounds, and smells, can also trigger powerful emotions and memories. Ultimately, these connections often reflect our identities, making certain locations feel like an extension of ourselves.

Discussion · Q5

How could people's opinions about travel change in the next ten years?

I believe the way people view travel will undergo significant transformations in the next decade. With the rise of technology, particularly virtual reality, people might start to experience destinations from their living rooms, which could make them more selective about the places they choose to visit physically. Additionally, as environmental concerns become increasingly pressing, there will likely be a shift towards more sustainable travel options, with travelers prioritizing eco-friendly accommodations and transportation. This could lead to a greater appreciation for local cultures and authentic experiences rather than just ticking off tourist attractions. Overall, I think the future of travel will be more thoughtful, balancing adventure with a sense of responsibility.

Discussion · Q6

What steps can be taken to improve the experience of visiting important places?

To enhance the experience of visiting meaningful destinations, a multifaceted approach can be adopted. Firstly, providing immersive cultural experiences can truly transform a visit; for instance, engaging visitors in local traditions or workshops helps them connect on a deeper level. Secondly, improving accessibility to these destinations is crucial; ensuring that they are easy to reach and navigate can significantly increase visitor satisfaction. Additionally, implementing sustainable tourism practices not only preserves the integrity of these sites but also enhances the overall experience by fostering a sense of responsibility among travelers. Lastly, offering personalized itineraries or guided tours that cater to individual interests can make each visit feel more unique and impactful.
