Speaking test #191
Part 1 · Interview
4 to 5 minutes. The examiner asks about you and familiar topics.
Can you tell me your full name?
Where are you from?
Do you work or are you a student?
What's your favorite indoor activity?
My favorite indoor activity is definitely reading. I love getting lost in a good book and immersing myself in different worlds and characters. It's a great way to relax and unwind after a long day.
Do you prefer to play indoor games or outdoor games?
I really enjoy both indoor and outdoor games. Outdoor games are great for getting some fresh air and exercise, but indoor games can be just as fun and engaging. It really depends on my mood and the weather.
What indoor games did you play when you were a child?
When I was a child, I loved playing board games and card games with my family. We would often spend hours playing Monopoly, Scrabble, and Rummy. It was a great way to bond and spend time together.
What sorts of indoor games do children in your country play now?
Nowadays, children in my country seem to be more interested in playing video games and computer games. They also enjoy playing sports games and puzzle games. However, traditional indoor games like board games and card games are still popular among families and friends.
Do you like insects?
Personally, I have a bit of a mixed opinion when it comes to insects. Some of them, like butterflies and ladybugs, are quite beautiful and fascinating to observe, but others, like cockroaches and mosquitoes, can be quite unpleasant and even dangerous. So, I suppose you could say that it depends on the specific type of insect in question.
Do you think insects are useful?
Definitely! Insects play an incredibly important role in many ecosystems and are vital for pollination, pest control, and even as a food source for other animals. For example, bees are responsible for pollinating a large percentage of the fruits, vegetables, and nuts that we eat. Without insects, our world would be a very different and less diverse place.
What kinds of insects make some people scared?
I think it's safe to say that most people have a bit of a phobia when it comes to certain types of insects, like spiders, for example. Other insects that can make people feel uneasy include cockroaches, beetles, and even some species of ants. These insects are often seen as dirty or creepy and can evoke feelings of disgust or fear in some people.
Are there many different insects in the place where you live?
Yes, there are quite a few different types of insects where I live. We have everything from the common house fly to various types of butterflies and moths. There are also quite a few types of beetles and ants, as well as some interesting types of praying mantises and other types of bugs. It's quite fascinating to see the diversity of insects that can be found in even just one small area.
You will have to talk about the topic for one to two minutes. You have one minute to think about what you are going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.

How are music events in your country different from those in other cultures, especially regarding how the audience gets involved and takes part?
That's a fascinating question! In my country, musical events often foster a sense of community engagement that can be quite unique. For instance, audiences are usually very enthusiastic, often singing along or even dancing in the aisles, creating an electric atmosphere that enhances the overall experience. In contrast, I've noticed that in some other cultures, the audience tends to be more reserved, focusing intently on the performance rather than participating actively. This difference can stem from cultural norms regarding how music is experienced—some places prioritize the artistic integrity of the performance, while others celebrate the joy of collective participation. Ultimately, both approaches have their own merits and contribute to the rich tapestry of global musical traditions!
How much do musical events show the culture and values of a society?
Absolutely, musical events are a fascinating lens through which we can observe the culture and values of a society. They often encapsulate the essence of a community's identity, showcasing everything from traditional practices to contemporary trends. For instance, folk music festivals can highlight a region's history and customs, while pop concerts might reveal the current social issues and aspirations of the younger generation. Moreover, the way people engage with these events—be it through dancing, singing along, or even the attire they wear—can be incredibly telling of the prevailing attitudes and beliefs. Ultimately, music serves as a universal language that not only entertains but also unites and reflects the diverse tapestry of human experiences.
How do music events help bring people together and build community spirit?
Musical events play a pivotal role in fostering social cohesion and nurturing a strong community spirit. They provide a unique platform where people from diverse backgrounds can come together, share experiences, and celebrate their differences through the universal language of music. These gatherings often cultivate a sense of belonging, as individuals bond over shared interests and create lasting memories. Additionally, live performances can elevate local culture and arts, drawing attention to community issues and encouraging collaboration among residents. Ultimately, these events not only entertain but also serve as a catalyst for building stronger, more connected communities.
Why do you think people prefer going to live music shows instead of just listening to music at home?
There’s something truly magical about live musical performances that simply can't be replicated through recorded music. For many, the electric atmosphere of a concert creates an exhilarating experience that engages all the senses. Being surrounded by a crowd of like-minded fans, feeling the pulsating rhythm of the music, and witnessing the artist’s energy firsthand adds an intangible depth to the experience. Moreover, live performances often bring a sense of spontaneity, where no two shows are ever alike, creating unforgettable memories. It’s this unique blend of connection and excitement that compels people to seek out live music over just hitting play at home.
How could musical events change in the future due to new technology and shifts in how people behave?
The future of musical events is likely to be incredibly exciting, thanks to rapid advancements in technology and shifting social behaviors. For instance, we might see the rise of immersive experiences, where virtual reality allows fans to feel as if they are part of a live concert from the comfort of their homes. Additionally, with the increasing popularity of live streaming, artists could reach global audiences without the constraints of physical venues, which would create a more inclusive environment for music lovers everywhere. Furthermore, as social interactions evolve, we might witness a trend towards intimate gatherings that leverage technology to connect people, such as smaller pop-up concerts where attendees can interact with artists in innovative ways. Overall, the fusion of technology and changing social dynamics will undoubtedly reshape the landscape of musical events, making them more accessible and engaging than ever before.
How can we get more people to come to and support local music events?
To boost attendance and support for local musical events, a multifaceted approach is essential. Firstly, community engagement is crucial; organizers could collaborate with local schools and universities to promote events and even involve students in performances. Additionally, leveraging social media platforms can create a buzz around these events, making them more appealing to a younger audience. Offering incentives, such as discounted tickets or bundled packages for groups, can also encourage people to attend. Furthermore, incorporating diverse genres and themes can attract a wider audience, ensuring there's something for everyone. Ultimately, creating a vibrant atmosphere that celebrates local talent can significantly enhance participation.
