Speaking test #252
Part 1 · Interview
4 to 5 minutes. The examiner asks about you and familiar topics.
Can you tell me your full name?
Where are you from?
Do you work or are you a student?
Have you done water sports?
Yes, I have had the opportunity to participate in a variety of water sports in the past. I have dabbled in activities such as surfing, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding. Each of these experiences has been incredibly exhilarating and challenging in their own unique ways.
What other water sports would you like to try?
I am particularly interested in trying out water sports such as kiteboarding and windsurfing. I find the idea of harnessing the power of the wind to propel oneself across the water to be a fascinating concept. Additionally, I would also like to try my hand at scuba diving. I have always been fascinated by the underwater world and would love to explore it more intimately.
Do you think water sports are dangerous?
Water sports can certainly be dangerous if proper precautions are not taken. However, I believe that with the right training, equipment, and mindset, most water sports can be enjoyed safely. It is important to always be aware of one's surroundings and to have a healthy respect for the power of the water.
What kind of water sports do people in your (this) country like?
In my country, people tend to enjoy a wide variety of water sports. Popular activities include swimming, boating, jet skiing, and water skiing. Additionally, many people also enjoy more extreme sports such as wakeboarding and kitesurfing. The country's coastlines and rivers provide ample opportunities for people to engage in these activities.
Does the weather change a lot in your country?
The weather in my country can be quite variable. We experience a wide range of temperatures and precipitation levels throughout the year. For example, in the summer, temperatures can reach up to 40 degrees Celsius, while in the winter, they can drop to below freezing. Additionally, we have a monsoon season that brings heavy rains for several months of the year. Overall, I would say that the weather does change quite a bit in my country.
What is your favorite kind of weather?
Personally, I am a big fan of mild, sunny weather. I enjoy temperatures in the mid-20s and clear blue skies. I find that this type of weather is perfect for outdoor activities such as hiking or spending time at the beach. Additionally, I find that I am more productive and energized when the weather is sunny and bright.
Would you like to live in a place that has very different weather from your country?
I think it would be interesting to live in a place with vastly different weather from my country. For example, I would be curious to experience the four distinct seasons of a place like Canada or the United States. I think it would be an exciting change of pace to experience snow and ice in the winter, and warm sunshine in the summer. However, I do value the warmth and sunshine of my current home, so I would have to weigh the pros and cons of living in a place with different weather.
Do you think people feel happier living in countries where the weather is always sunny?
I think that people's happiness can be affected by many factors, and weather is just one of them. While it is true that sunny weather can boost one's mood, I believe that people's happiness is largely influenced by their personal circumstances, such as their relationships, job, and overall quality of life. Additionally, I think that people can adapt and find happiness in a variety of weather conditions. So, I don't think that living in a country with always sunny weather is a guarantee for happiness.

How do city areas differ from country areas in terms of growing up and way of life?
Urban areas and rural regions offer distinctly different environments that significantly influence upbringing and lifestyle. In cities, children often grow up surrounded by a diverse mix of cultures, which fosters a sense of global awareness and adaptability. They typically have access to a wide range of activities and amenities, such as museums, parks, and educational institutions, promoting a more dynamic lifestyle. On the other hand, rural upbringing often emphasizes community ties and a slower pace of life, where children can enjoy nature and engage in outdoor activities. This can lead to a strong sense of belonging and close-knit relationships, which are sometimes less pronounced in urban settings. Ultimately, both environments shape individuals in unique ways, contributing to their perspectives and values as they grow.
How much do you think growing up in a familiar place affects a person's character as an adult?
Absolutely, childhood experiences in a familiar environment play a profound role in shaping an individual's character as an adult. During those formative years, we absorb values, beliefs, and social norms that often become the foundation of who we are. For instance, a nurturing environment can foster qualities like empathy and resilience, while a tumultuous one might lead to challenges in emotional regulation. Additionally, the relationships we build with family and friends during childhood can significantly influence our social skills and coping mechanisms later in life. Ultimately, these early experiences lay the groundwork for our future interactions and choices, making them incredibly significant in the development of our identities.
How important do you think a person's hometown is for their growth and chances in life?
I believe the influence of one's hometown is profoundly significant when it comes to overall development and opportunities in life. The environment we grow up in shapes our values, beliefs, and even our aspirations. For instance, a person raised in a culturally rich city with access to diverse education and resources is likely to have different opportunities compared to someone from a rural area with limited access. Additionally, the social networks we form in our hometown can provide us with essential support and open doors to various career paths. Ultimately, while personal effort and talent play a crucial role, the foundational experiences rooted in our hometown often set the stage for our future success.
Why do you believe the place where a person grows up affects their values and beliefs for a long time?
The environment where someone grows up plays a crucial role in shaping their values and beliefs because it serves as the foundation for their experiences and interactions. For instance, children often emulate the attitudes and behaviors of the adults around them, whether it's their parents, teachers, or peers. This formative period is where they absorb cultural norms and societal expectations, which can influence their perspectives for a lifetime. Additionally, exposure to different ideas, whether through community or education, can either reinforce or challenge their initial beliefs, leading to a rich tapestry of values that evolve over time. Ultimately, the environment acts like a lens through which individuals interpret the world, guiding their decisions and shaping their identities as they grow older.
What changes do you expect in the environments where children grow up in the next few decades?
I think the places where children are raised will undergo significant transformations in the next couple of decades. For one, urban areas are likely to become even more family-friendly, with parks and recreational spaces designed for children to thrive. Additionally, technology will play a vital role; we might see smart homes equipped with AI that can assist in child development, making parenting more streamlined. Moreover, I believe there will be a stronger emphasis on community involvement, with neighborhoods fostering collaborative environments where families support one another. Overall, these changes could create a more enriching and supportive atmosphere for children to grow up in.
What steps can communities take to improve the raising of children in poorer areas?
Communities can play a pivotal role in enhancing the upbringing of children in less privileged areas by implementing a range of supportive measures. Firstly, establishing after-school programs can provide children with a safe space to learn and grow, offering tutoring in subjects where they may struggle and fostering social skills. Additionally, building strong partnerships with local organizations can create opportunities for mentorship programs, where older youth or adults guide and inspire younger children, helping them to envision a brighter future. Moreover, organizing community events that promote cultural awareness and celebrate local achievements can instill a sense of pride and belonging among children. Lastly, advocating for better access to essential resources, such as healthcare and nutrition, ensures that children’s basic needs are met, which is crucial for their overall development. By taking these steps, communities can forge a supportive environment that nurtures every child's potential, regardless of their background.
