Speaking test #263
Part 1 · Interview
4 to 5 minutes. The examiner asks about you and familiar topics.
Can you tell me your full name?
Where are you from?
Do you work or are you a student?
Did you always pay attention in your lessons at school? [why/why not?
?] To be honest, I can't say I always paid attention in my lessons at school. I think it's pretty normal for students to get a bit distracted or disinterested in certain subjects, especially if they're not particularly engaging or relevant to their interests. That being said, I did try my best to focus and absorb as much information as possible, especially when it came to exams or important assignments.
Do you find it easy to concentrate when you are in a noisy place? [why/why not?
?] It can be a bit of a challenge for me to concentrate in a noisy place, especially if there are a lot of distractions or interruptions. I think it's just human nature to get a bit distracted by outside stimuli, and it can be hard to stay focused on a task when there are a lot of other things going on around you. That being said, I do try my best to find a quiet and distraction-free space to work or study in whenever possible.
When is it particularly important for you to concentrate? [why?
?] There are a few different situations when it's particularly important for me to concentrate. For example, when I'm working on an important project or presentation, I need to be fully focused and engaged in order to deliver the best possible results. Similarly, when I'm studying for an exam or trying to learn something new, I need to be able to concentrate in order to absorb and retain the information. In these cases, my ability to concentrate directly impacts my success and achievements, so it's really important for me to focus and give my full attention to the task at hand.
What do you do to help yourself concentrate better? [why/why not?
?] There are a few things I do to help myself concentrate better. For one, I try to eliminate as many distractions as possible. This might mean turning off my phone, finding a quiet and comfortable workspace, or even just closing my eyes and taking a few deep breaths to clear my mind. I also try to set specific goals and priorities for each task, as this helps me stay focused and motivated. Finally, I try to take breaks and move around a bit, as this can help energize me and improve my overall concentration and productivity.
Do you do some cooking or help your family cook at home now?
Yes, I do enjoy cooking and helping out in the kitchen at home. It's a great way to relax and try out new recipes.
Did you do some house cleaning when you were young?
Yes, I did. It's important to take care of your living space and keep it clean and organized. I learned this lesson at a young age and have tried to carry it with me throughout my life.
Do you have breakfast at home everyday?
I try to have breakfast at home every day. It's a great way to start the day off on the right foot and get some fuel in your system before tackling the day's tasks.
Do you want to learn how to cook well?
Absolutely! I'm always looking to improve my cooking skills and try out new techniques and recipes. There's something so satisfying about creating a delicious meal from scratch, and it's a great way to bond with others as well.
You will have to talk about the topic for one to two minutes. You have one minute to think about what you are going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.

Part 3 · Discussion
4 to 5 minutes. The examiner asks broader questions linked to the cue card topic.
What qualities liked in one friend might be different from those appreciated in another?
That's a fascinating question! The qualities we admire in friends can vary greatly depending on our individual personalities and the dynamics of the friendship. For instance, one friend might be appreciated for their unwavering loyalty and ability to listen, which creates a sense of emotional support. On the other hand, another friend might be valued for their adventurous spirit and willingness to try new things, which can lead to exciting experiences and memories. Moreover, the context of the friendship plays a significant role; we might seek out different traits in friends based on our current life circumstances. For example, during challenging times, we might gravitate towards friends who exhibit resilience and understanding, while in more carefree moments, we could appreciate those who bring a sense of fun and spontaneity. Ultimately, it's this blend of qualities that enriches our social circle and enhances our lives!
How important do you think loyalty is in friendships?
I believe that the quality of loyalty is absolutely fundamental in friendships. When you know that a friend is genuinely loyal, it creates a sense of safety and trust that allows the relationship to flourish. Without this loyalty, friendships can become quite fragile, often leading to misunderstandings and conflicts. Furthermore, loyal friends are there to support you during both the good times and the challenging moments, which reinforces the bond you share. In essence, loyalty acts as the bedrock of a strong friendship, making it not just essential but invaluable for long-lasting connections.
How important do you think honesty is for keeping strong relationships?
Honesty is absolutely paramount in maintaining strong relationships. When people are open and truthful with one another, it fosters a sense of trust that is essential for any meaningful connection. Without honesty, misunderstandings can easily arise, leading to a breakdown in communication. Moreover, being honest encourages vulnerability and authenticity, allowing individuals to truly see and appreciate each other for who they are. In essence, honesty not only strengthens bonds but also creates a safe space where both parties can thrive emotionally.
Why do you think people are attracted to friends who have special good traits?
People are often drawn to friends who exhibit certain admirable qualities because these traits can significantly enhance our own lives. For instance, when we surround ourselves with individuals who are kind-hearted or supportive, it creates a positive environment that fosters personal growth and happiness. Additionally, having friends who demonstrate qualities like integrity or resilience can inspire us to adopt similar values in our own lives. It's like a ripple effect; their admirable qualities can motivate us to become better versions of ourselves. Ultimately, we seek connections that uplift us and align with our aspirations, making our friendships deeply meaningful and enriching.
How might friendships change if people always show good qualities?
If individuals consistently demonstrate positive traits, I believe friendships would thrive in a multitude of ways. First and foremost, trust and mutual respect would deepen significantly, creating a solid foundation for the relationship. When friends exhibit qualities like kindness, honesty, and support, it fosters an environment where everyone feels valued and understood. This could lead to more open communication, allowing friends to share their thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment. Additionally, such positivity can be contagious, inspiring others in the friendship circle to also embrace these traits, ultimately enhancing the overall dynamic. In the long run, these enriched relationships can lead to a more fulfilling social life, which is invaluable for emotional well-being.
What ways can a person develop good qualities in their friendships?
Cultivating admirable qualities in friendships is all about nurturing positive traits and fostering a supportive environment. One effective approach is to practice active listening; when friends feel heard and valued, it deepens the connection and encourages them to reciprocate those qualities. Additionally, setting a good example is crucial—when you embody traits like honesty and empathy, it often inspires your friends to adopt similar behaviors. Another great strategy is to engage in open communication; discussing personal values and aspirations can help align expectations and strengthen the bond. Ultimately, it’s about creating a mutual support system where everyone feels empowered to grow together.
