Speaking test #269
Part 1 · Interview
4 to 5 minutes. The examiner asks about you and familiar topics.
Can you tell me your full name?
Where are you from?
Do you work or are you a student?
What was the dream job for you when you were young?
When I was younger, I always dreamed of becoming a doctor. I loved the idea of being able to help people and make a difference in their lives. However, as I got older and learned more about the field, I realized that it wasn't the right fit for me.
Have you changed your mind about your dream job?
Yes, I have. I used to think that becoming a doctor was my ultimate career goal, but as I explored other options and learned more about myself, I realized that there were other paths that were a better fit for my interests and skills.
What do you plan to do in the future?
In the future, I hope to work in a career that allows me to use my creativity and problem-solving skills. I'm still exploring different options, but I'm considering careers in design or marketing.
What kind of jobs are popular in India?
In India, there are a wide range of popular careers. Some of the most in-demand jobs include engineering, IT, and finance. However, there are also many opportunities in fields such as healthcare, education, and government.
Can you remember the dreams you had?
Oh, definitely. I tend to have quite vivid and memorable dreams, so I can usually recall them pretty easily. Sometimes they're just random and nonsensical, but other times they feel really meaningful and significant.
Do you share your dreams with others? (or are you interested in others' dreams?
?) I'll definitely share some of my more interesting or notable dreams with friends and family, but I don't go around telling everyone about every little dream I have. As for other people's dreams, I'm definitely intrigued by them and love hearing about people's subconscious thoughts and experiences. It's always fascinating to me how different and unique everyone's dreams can be.
Do you think dreams have special meanings?
I definitely think that dreams can be a way for our minds to process and work through things that are going on in our lives. Sometimes I'll have a dream that feels really symbolic or tied to something I'm struggling with, and it can be really helpful in helping me understand my own thoughts and feelings. That being said, I don't think that every single dream needs to be analyzed and dissected. Sometimes they're just dreams and nothing more.
Do you want to make your dreams come true?
Absolutely. I think everyone has dreams and goals that they want to accomplish, and I'm no different. I have a lot of things that I want to do and experience in my life, and I'm always working towards making those dreams a reality. It takes hard work and dedication, but it's definitely worth it in the end.
You will have to talk about the topic for one to two minutes. You have one minute to think about what you are going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.

Part 3 · Discussion
4 to 5 minutes. The examiner asks broader questions linked to the cue card topic.
How are the traits of a good friend different from those of a casual acquaintance?
That's a great question! The qualities of a good friend are often rooted in deep emotional connections and trust, which starkly contrasts with the more superficial nature of a casual acquaintance. Good friends are typically characterized by their unwavering support and genuine understanding of each other's feelings, while acquaintances might only share a fleeting interest in your life. A good friend is someone you can count on during tough times, providing a safe space for vulnerability, whereas a casual acquaintance might only offer small talk or pleasantries. Ultimately, the depth of connection and the reciprocal nature of friendship elevate it far beyond the light interactions of casual acquaintances.
What parts of friendship do you believe are most important for making strong bonds?
When it comes to building strong connections in friendship, I believe that trust is absolutely paramount. Without trust, any relationship feels shaky and uncertain. Equally important is open communication; being able to share thoughts and feelings honestly fosters a deeper bond. Another key aspect is shared experiences—those moments we create together not only provide joy but also strengthen our ties. Lastly, I think that emotional support plays a crucial role, as friends who can uplift each other during tough times often develop a more resilient connection. Overall, it’s this combination that really solidifies the foundation of a lasting friendship!
How important is it for people to have friends who share their interests and values?
Having friends with similar interests and values is incredibly important for individuals. When people share common passions, it fosters deeper connections and leads to more meaningful conversations. These relationships often provide a sense of belonging and community, which can be essential for emotional well-being. Additionally, friends with similar values can offer support during challenging times, as they understand each other’s perspectives and priorities. While it’s also valuable to have friends from diverse backgrounds, those who resonate on a personal level can truly enrich our lives. Overall, such friendships can significantly contribute to our happiness and personal growth.
Why do people usually find it easier to share their personal thoughts and feelings with friends?
People often feel more comfortable sharing personal thoughts and feelings with friends because of the sense of trust and emotional safety that friendships provide. Friends usually share similar experiences and can offer empathy, which makes it easier to open up about personal issues. Additionally, there's often a non-judgmental atmosphere among friends, allowing individuals to express themselves without fear of criticism. This kind of support system can be incredibly important, especially during challenging times, as it fosters a deeper connection and understanding between friends. Ultimately, the bond we form with friends creates a space where vulnerability is accepted and even celebrated.
How can friendships change as people experience different stages in life?
As people navigate through various life stages, the nature of friendships can undergo significant transformations. In early childhood, friendships are often based on proximity and shared activities, like playing on the playground. However, as individuals transition into adolescence, friendships typically become more complex, leaning towards emotional support and shared experiences. In adulthood, the dynamics can shift again, where friendships may be influenced by responsibilities such as work and family, leading to a more selective approach to maintaining relationships. Ultimately, while the depth and quality of friendships may fluctuate, the underlying importance of social connections remains constant throughout life.
What can people do to make their friendships stronger over time?
To strengthen friendships over time, individuals can take several proactive measures. Firstly, making a conscious effort to stay in touch regularly is crucial. Whether it’s through a quick text, a phone call, or even planning a monthly get-together, these small gestures can significantly reinforce the bond. Moreover, being genuinely interested in each other’s lives by asking about personal experiences and offering support during tough times can foster a deeper connection. Lastly, celebrating each other’s milestones, no matter how big or small, creates shared memories that help solidify the friendship. Overall, it’s about putting in the effort to show that you care, which ultimately strengthens the relationship.
