Speaking test #272
Part 1 · Interview
4 to 5 minutes. The examiner asks about you and familiar topics.
Can you tell me your full name?
Where are you from?
Do you work or are you a student?
Do you have a pet?
? Oh yeah, I have a cat named Simba. He's a total diva, but I love him all the same.
What animal is most popular in your country?
? I'd say dogs are probably the most popular animal in my country. They're just so loyal and loving, and there are so many different breeds to choose from.
Why is it so special?
? I think dogs are special because they have a special bond with their owners. They're always there for you, no matter what, and they're always ready to cuddle and play. Plus, they're just so darn cute!
What animal do you dislike most? Why?
? Hmm, I'm not sure if I dislike any animal in particular. I guess if I had to choose, it would probably be snakes. They just seem so creepy and slimy to me, and I don't like the idea of them slithering around everywhere. But that's just my personal preference, I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who love snakes.
Would you like to work in a company related to environmental protection?
Absolutely, I have always been passionate about preserving our planet and ensuring that we are living in a sustainable way. Working for a company that has a strong focus on environmental protection would be incredibly fulfilling for me.
How can we protect the environment?
There are a variety of ways that we can all do our part to protect the environment. Simple actions such as reducing our use of plastic, conserving energy and water, and supporting sustainable practices in our daily lives can make a big difference. Additionally, supporting and advocating for government policies that protect the environment is crucial.
Do you think you've done enough to protect the environment?
I am always looking for ways to improve and do more to protect the environment, so I wouldn't say that I have done enough. However, I strive to make conscious choices that align with my values and believe that every little bit helps.
Is there education about environmental protection at school in your country?
Yes, environmental education is included in the curriculum in schools across my country. From a young age, students are taught about the importance of protecting our planet and the ways in which we can all play a role in preserving it. It's great to see such a emphasis placed on environmental education and the importance of sustainability.

When you visited a relative or a family member
You should say:
- Who you visited
- Reason for the visit
- Activities you did together
- How you felt about the visit
I recently visited my maternal uncle during my summer break. My uncle, who lives in a quaint village in South India, had been insisting for a long time that I come and spend some time with him. I finally got the opportunity during my holidays and decided to pay him a visit. The main reason for my visit was to reconnect with my roots and spend quality time with my family.
During my stay with my uncle, we did various activities together that truly enriched my experience. We went for long walks in the picturesque countryside, visited the local temples, and attended a traditional village fair. One memorable activity was when my uncle taught me how to cook a traditional South Indian dish from scratch. It was a delightful experience to learn about our family's culinary traditions and bond over preparing and enjoying a meal together.
Overall, I felt incredibly grateful for the opportunity to visit my uncle and spend time with him. The visit not only allowed me to strengthen my bond with my family but also gave me a deeper appreciation for my cultural heritage. Being immersed in the tranquil village setting and engaging in meaningful activities with my uncle made me feel rejuvenated and connected to my roots. This visit will always hold a special place in my heart as a cherished memory of family togetherness and cultural enrichment.

Part 3 · Discussion
4 to 5 minutes. The examiner asks broader questions linked to the cue card topic.
What are some ways visiting family is the same as or different from visiting friends?
Visiting family members and friends can be quite similar in many ways, yet they also have their distinct characteristics. For instance, both occasions often revolve around shared experiences and building stronger bonds. When you visit family, it typically carries a sense of obligation and loyalty, often steeped in tradition, especially during holidays or special events. On the other hand, visiting friends tends to be more casual and spontaneous, where the focus is often on having fun and enjoying leisure time together. Moreover, the dynamics can differ significantly; family gatherings may involve deeper discussions or even arguments, while time spent with friends often leans toward lighthearted banter and laughter. Ultimately, both types of visits are invaluable, as they provide opportunities for connection and support, albeit in different ways.
How much do you believe family visits are more important than visits with friends?
That's a fascinating question! I believe that family visits often carry a depth of emotional significance that makes them particularly meaningful. Families typically share a unique bond that can foster a sense of belonging and support, which might not always be present in friendships. However, that doesn't mean visits with friends lack value; in fact, friendships can provide a different kind of fulfillment and connection, often based on shared interests and experiences. Ultimately, the meaning of any visit really depends on the individual relationships involved and the context of those interactions. So, while family visits may hold a special place in our hearts, friendships can also offer their own kind of richness and joy.
How important do you think family get-togethers are for keeping relationships strong?
Family gatherings are absolutely crucial for maintaining relationships! They provide a wonderful opportunity for family members to reconnect and strengthen their bonds, especially in today’s fast-paced world where everyone seems to be racing against time. During these gatherings, we share stories, create memories, and often find common ground, which is essential for fostering a sense of belonging. Additionally, these events can help bridge generational gaps, allowing younger family members to learn from the experiences of their elders. Overall, I think these gatherings are more than just social occasions; they serve as a cornerstone for family unity and emotional support.
Why do you think people want to see their family members often?
I believe people feel a strong urge to visit family members regularly primarily because of the inherent bonding that family ties create. Families often provide a sense of belonging and emotional support, which is essential for mental well-being. Additionally, regular visits can help maintain strong relationships, allowing family members to share experiences and create lasting memories together. In our fast-paced lives, these gatherings become precious moments where we can reconnect and remind ourselves of our roots. Ultimately, it’s about nurturing those connections that give our lives depth and meaning.
How could the way people connect with their family change in the future?
As we look towards the future, I believe the way people interact with their relatives is going to undergo some significant transformations, largely due to advancements in technology. With the rise of virtual reality and augmented reality, families might find themselves having immersive experiences together, even if they are miles apart. Imagine sitting down for a virtual family dinner where everyone feels as though they are in the same room, sharing stories and laughter. Moreover, social media platforms are likely to evolve, making it easier to maintain relationships across distances. We might see more personalized and interactive ways to keep in touch, such as through AI-generated content that captures and shares memories in real-time. Overall, while face-to-face interactions will always hold a special place, technology could enhance our ability to connect and nurture relationships in ways we can't even fully envision yet!
What steps can be taken to get relatives to visit family more often?
To encourage more frequent family visits among relatives, creating a sense of community bonding is essential. Organizing regular family gatherings or reunions can be a fantastic way to strengthen those ties and make everyone feel more connected. Additionally, leveraging technology can be beneficial; for instance, creating a family group chat or planning virtual catch-ups for those who live farther away can keep everyone engaged. Furthermore, encouraging shared activities, like game nights or cooking together, can make visits more appealing and memorable. Ultimately, it’s about fostering an environment where family members feel valued and excited to spend time together.
