Names · Q2

How would you choose names for your next generation?

I would choose names that have special meanings and are meaningful to our family. For example, I would consider names that have been passed down from previous generations or names that have a significant meaning in our culture. I would also consider names that have a positive connotation and are easy to pronounce.

Names · Q3

Are there any differences between how Vietnamese people name their children now and in the past?

Yes, there are definitely differences between how Vietnamese people name their children now and in the past. In the past, names were often chosen based on traditional customs and beliefs, such as choosing a name that had a good meaning or was associated with a specific deity. Nowadays, parents are more likely to choose names that are more modern and fashionable, and may not have as much significance as traditional names.

Names · Q4

Does anyone in your family have the same name as you?

Yes, actually many of my family members have the same name as me. My father, grandfather, and uncles all have the same surname, Nguyen. However, my given name is unique to me and my immediate family. It is a tradition in Vietnamese culture to have the same surname within the family.

Being Bored · Q1

What do you do when you feel bored?

When I feel bored, I like to engage in activities that challenge my mind or keep me physically active. This could be anything from reading a book or solving a puzzle, to going for a run or hitting the gym. I find that engaging in these kinds of activities helps to alleviate boredom and keep me mentally and physically stimulated.

Being Bored · Q2

What kind of things are boring to you?

To be honest, I don't really find many things boring. I tend to be a very curious and adventurous person, so I enjoy exploring new things and trying out new experiences. However, I will say that I do find it boring when I am forced to do something that doesn't interest me or that feels repetitive and monotonous.

Being Bored · Q3

Whom do you think get bored more easily, the young or the old?

I think this really depends on the individual. Some young people may be more easily bored because they are still exploring and discovering what interests them, while others may be more engaged and curious about the world around them. On the other hand, some older individuals may be more prone to boredom because they have already experienced a lot of what life has to offer and may feel like they have less to discover. Ultimately, I think it comes down to the individual's personality and interests.

Being Bored · Q4

Do you think school is boring?

Again, this really depends on the individual and their perspective. Some people may find school boring because they struggle with certain subjects or feel like they are not being challenged enough. Others may find school exciting and engaging because they are learning new things and engaging with their peers. Personally, I found school to be a mix of both - there were certainly moments when I found it boring, but overall I enjoyed the learning process and the social interactions I had with my classmates.

Being punctual is a quality that I always strive to maintain, but there was one particular instance when I found myself running late due to unexpected traffic congestion. I vividly remember this incident when I was late for my best friend's birthday party.

Point 2

How it affected others

My tardiness caused inconvenience to my friend and the other guests as the party couldn't start without me. Everyone was waiting for me to arrive so we could kick off the celebrations. My friend seemed disappointed, and I could sense the frustration among the guests who had arrived on time.

Point 3

Steps you took to address the lateness

Realizing the impact of my lateness, I immediately contacted my friend to apologize and inform them about the situation. Part 3 · Discussion

4 to 5 minutes. The examiner asks broader questions linked to the cue card topic.

Discussion · Q1

How can being late to an event change the experience for everyone?

Being late to an event can significantly impact the overall experience for everyone involved. Firstly, it can disrupt the flow of the event, causing delays that may affect timing and the sequence of activities. This can be particularly detrimental in formal settings, where a strict schedule is often adhered to. Moreover, arriving late can create a sense of awkwardness, not just for the latecomer but also for those who were on time, as they may feel uncomfortable waiting or adjusting to the new dynamics. It can even lead to a reduction in engagement, as those who arrive late might miss out on crucial introductions or key moments, thus feeling a bit disconnected from the group. Overall, punctuality fosters a sense of shared experience and respect among attendees, enhancing the enjoyment for everyone involved.

Discussion · Q2

Is it okay to be late sometimes, or should being on time always be more important?

Absolutely, I think there are circumstances where being late can be considered acceptable. Life is unpredictable, and sometimes unforeseen events can derail even the best-laid plans. For instance, if someone is caught in a sudden traffic jam or dealing with a family emergency, it’s understandable that they might arrive late. However, I believe that in professional settings, maintaining punctuality is crucial, as it reflects on one’s reliability and respect for others' time. Ultimately, while punctuality should generally be prioritized, it’s also important to approach each situation with a degree of empathy and understanding.

Discussion · Q3

How important do you believe being on time is at work compared to in personal relationships?

Punctuality is absolutely crucial in professional settings. It reflects a person's commitment and reliability, which are essential traits in the workplace. When someone consistently arrives on time, it helps foster a sense of respect among colleagues and can significantly enhance team dynamics. In contrast, while punctuality is still important in personal relationships, there tends to be more flexibility. Friends and family often understand life’s unpredictabilities, so a late arrival might be brushed off more easily. Nevertheless, consistently being late can create a sense of frustration and may weaken those personal bonds over time.

Discussion · Q4

Why do some people have a hard time being on time, even though they know it's important?

There are several reasons why some individuals struggle with punctuality, despite recognizing its significance. For many, it boils down to poor time management skills; they may underestimate how long tasks will take or overcommit themselves to various activities. Additionally, some people have a tendency to be overly optimistic about their schedules, believing they'll always have enough time to get ready or travel. Moreover, psychological factors such as anxiety or a lack of motivation can also play a role in their inability to prioritize being on time. Ultimately, it’s a complex interplay of habits and perceptions that can make punctuality a real challenge for them.

Discussion · Q5

How do you think people's views on timekeeping will change in the future with more remote work and technology?

Discussion · Q6

What steps can people take to better manage their time and avoid being late?

To enhance time management skills and minimize tardiness, individuals can adopt several effective strategies. Firstly, setting clear priorities is crucial; by determining which tasks are most important, people can allocate their time more efficiently. Additionally, utilizing tools like planners or digital calendars can help keep track of deadlines and appointments, ensuring nothing slips through the cracks. Another valuable approach is to establish a routine—by creating consistent daily schedules, individuals can cultivate habits that promote punctuality. Lastly, it’s beneficial to allow for a buffer time when planning activities; this way, unexpected delays won’t derail one’s schedule. With these measures in place, it becomes much easier to stay on track and arrive on time!
