Speaking test #344
Part 1 · Interview
4 to 5 minutes. The examiner asks about you and familiar topics.
Can you tell me your full name?
Where are you from?
Do you work or are you a student?
Do you often borrow books?
Well, I'm a bit of a bookworm, so I borrow books pretty frequently. Whether it's from the library or from a friend, I'm always on the lookout for something new to read.
Is there anything that cannot be lent?
Hmm, that's an interesting question. I suppose there are some things that can't really be lent, like one-of-a-kind items or sentimental possessions. But in general, I think most things can be borrowed if the person is willing to part with it for a while.
Have you borrowed money from a friend?
Yes, I have borrowed money from friends before. It's not something I do all the time, but sometimes you just need a little extra help to get through a tough situation. It's always nice to have friends who are willing to lend a hand.
What would you do if someone did not return what they borrowed from you?
Well, it would depend on the item and the circumstances. If it was something small and not particularly valuable, I might just let it slide. But if it was something important or sentimental, I would probably have a conversation with the person and try to work out a solution. Ultimately, I think it's important to be understanding and try to find a way to resolve the issue without damaging the relationship.
How do you plan your time in a day?
I usually like to start my day by making a to-do list. I find that it helps me prioritize my tasks and gives me a sense of direction for the day. I also like to schedule specific blocks of time for certain activities, such as work, exercise, and personal projects. I find that this helps me stay on track and be more productive.
Is it easy to manage time for you?
I would say that managing my time is relatively easy for me, as long as I am organized and have a clear idea of what needs to be done. However, there are certainly times when unexpected events or distractions can throw off my schedule. In those cases, I try to stay flexible and adjust my plans as needed.
When do you find it hard to allocate time?
I find it hardest to allocate time when I am feeling overwhelmed or stressed. When I have a lot of competing demands on my time, it can be difficult to prioritize and make decisions about how to use my time most effectively. Additionally, if I am feeling tired or unmotivated, it can be challenging to focus and be productive.
Do you like being busy?
I would say that I am a bit of a workaholic, so I generally enjoy being busy. I find that when I have a lot on my plate, I am more motivated and energized. However, I also realize the importance of taking breaks and making time for leisure activities. I try to strike a balance between being productive and taking care of myself.
You will have to talk about the topic for one to two minutes. You have one minute to think about what you are going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.

How do different types of electronic media affect what people think and how they act?
Different forms of electronic media have a profound impact on people's opinions and behaviors, and it's fascinating to observe. For instance, social media platforms can create a viral effect where trends and ideas spread rapidly, often shaping public perception within hours. Additionally, news outlets online tend to present information in a more sensationalized way, which can lead to confirmation bias—people are more likely to engage with content that aligns with their existing beliefs. This constant exposure can subtly shift attitudes or reinforce stereotypes, ultimately influencing how individuals interact in their daily lives. Overall, the power of electronic media to sway opinions is undeniable, and it reflects the changing dynamics of communication in our society.
Some people think that electronic media is bad for society. What do you think about this?
I can certainly understand why some people hold the view that electronic media has a negative impact on society. It's undeniable that it can lead to issues such as information overload and contribute to feelings of isolation. However, I believe that the benefits often outweigh the drawbacks. For instance, electronic media has revolutionized the way we connect with others, allowing us to maintain relationships across long distances and share ideas on a global scale. Moreover, it serves as a powerful platform for social change, enabling movements to gain momentum and mobilize support like never before. So, while there are some negative aspects, I think we should also celebrate the positive ones!
How important do you think electronic media is in influencing cultural norms and values?
Electronic media plays an absolutely pivotal role in shaping cultural norms and values today. With the rapid proliferation of social media platforms, people are exposed to a plethora of diverse perspectives and lifestyles that influence their beliefs and behaviors. For instance, viral trends can prompt shifts in public opinion or even challenge long-standing traditions, sometimes leading to more progressive societal changes. Moreover, electronic media serves as a powerful tool for disseminating information and fostering understanding across different cultures, which can help break down stereotypes and promote inclusivity. Overall, I believe that while electronic media can sometimes propagate negativity, its potential to inspire positive change and cultural exchange is truly remarkable.
Why do you think more people are choosing electronic media for news and fun?
I believe the shift towards electronic media for information and entertainment is largely driven by its convenience and accessibility. With just a few taps on our devices, we can access a vast array of content tailored to our interests, which is incredibly appealing in today’s fast-paced world. Moreover, electronic media often provides real-time updates, keeping us connected and informed about global events as they happen. The interactivity of platforms, such as social media, also fosters a sense of community, allowing people to share and discuss content with others, which enhances their overall experience. It’s fascinating how technology has transformed the way we consume information, making it not only more engaging but also more personalized.
How could electronic media change in the next ten years as technology keeps improving?
That's a fascinating question! As technology continues to advance, I believe the role of electronic media will undergo significant transformation. For starters, we can expect even more immersive experiences with the rise of virtual and augmented reality, allowing audiences to engage with content in ways we can only imagine today. Additionally, the integration of artificial intelligence in content creation will likely lead to more personalized media consumption, tailoring news and entertainment to individual preferences. Furthermore, as social media platforms evolve, they might become even more influential in shaping public opinion and driving social change. With the increasing importance of digital literacy, I think there will be a greater emphasis on critical thinking skills to navigate the vast array of information available. Overall, the next decade promises to be an exciting time for electronic media, where innovation and creativity will redefine how we connect with the world around us.
What steps can be taken to boost the benefits of electronic media while reducing its downsides?
To enhance the positive effects of electronic media while minimizing its drawbacks, a multifaceted approach is essential. Firstly, educational initiatives aimed at promoting digital literacy can empower users to navigate online content critically. This would enable individuals to discern between credible information and misinformation, thus fostering a more informed society. Additionally, implementing stricter regulations on harmful content could significantly reduce exposure to negative influences, especially for younger audiences. Finally, encouraging healthy screen time habits, such as setting limits on usage, can help balance online interactions with real-world experiences, ultimately leading to a more positive relationship with electronic media.
