Speaking test #348
Part 1 · Interview
4 to 5 minutes. The examiner asks about you and familiar topics.
Can you tell me your full name?
Where are you from?
Do you work or are you a student?
How often do you visit your relatives?
I visit my relatives on a fairly regular basis, usually every few months or so. It all depends on my schedule and how busy I am with work and other commitments. But I always try to make time to see them, as I value family greatly.
What do you do when you visit your relatives?
When I visit my relatives, we usually catch up on everything that's been going on in our lives. We'll talk about what's been happening with work, school, and any recent accomplishments or milestones. We'll also usually cook together and share meals, which is always a lot of fun.
Do people need to visit their relatives?
I believe that it's important for people to visit their relatives, as it helps to strengthen family bonds and keep those relationships strong. Regular visits can also be a great way to stay connected and in touch with loved ones, even if they live far away.
Do you prefer to visit your relatives or friends?
I enjoy visiting both my relatives and friends, but I have to say that I probably have a slight preference for visiting my relatives. I find that spending time with family is always comforting and grounding, and I always leave feeling recharged and refreshed. But I also love spending time with my friends, as it's a great way to relax and have fun.
Has your voice ever changed?
Yes, my voice has definitely undergone some changes over the years. As I have grown older, it has become deeper and more mature. Additionally, I have also developed better control and modulation of my voice through years of public speaking and acting.
Do you enjoy recording your voice and listening to it?
I must admit, I am not particularly fond of listening to my own voice. I find that it can be quite disconcerting, as it can sound quite different to how I perceive it in my head. However, I do appreciate the value of recording my voice for self-evaluation and improvement, particularly when it comes to public speaking or acting.
Are there some people’s voices you don’t like?
I wouldn’t say that I dislike any particular person's voice, but there are certain voices that I find less appealing than others. For example, I find high-pitched or nasal voices to be quite grating on the ears. However, I do understand that everyone's voice is unique and that it is not fair to judge someone based on their voice alone.
How does your voice change in different situations?
My voice can change quite dramatically depending on the situation. For example, when I am in a formal setting, such as a business meeting, I tend to speak in a more measured and controlled tone. However, when I am in a more relaxed and casual setting, such as with friends or family, my voice tends to be more animated and expressive. Additionally, when I am feeling particularly emotional, such as when I am feeling excited or upset, my voice can become quite high-pitched and dramatic.
You will have to talk about the topic for one to two minutes. You have one minute to think about what you are going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.

What is the difference in experience and fun between holidays with family and those with friends?
Holidays with family and friends offer distinctly different experiences, each brimming with its own unique charm. When I'm with family, there's often a sense of nostalgia and tradition that enriches the experience, like revisiting cherished childhood memories during family gatherings or trips. We tend to engage in activities that foster bonding, such as cooking together or playing games that have been passed down through generations. On the other hand, holidays with friends can be more spontaneous and adventurous, often filled with a sense of freedom and excitement. We might explore new places or try thrilling activities that push us out of our comfort zones, creating unforgettable memories. Both types of holidays are enjoyable in their own right; it’s the blend of comfort and adventure that makes each experience so special. Ultimately, whether with family or friends, it’s the connections we forge that make the holiday truly memorable.
Some people think vacations should be for resting, while others believe they should be busy with things to do. What do you think about this?
I think there’s a beautiful balance to be found between relaxation and activity during holidays. On one hand, taking time to unwind is crucial for recharging our mental and physical well-being. After all, life can be quite hectic, and a few days of peace can work wonders. On the other hand, engaging in activities can create lasting memories and enrich our experiences. Personally, I believe a holiday should include a mix of both; perhaps starting with some leisurely days to unwind, followed by exciting excursions that spark joy and adventure. Ultimately, it’s about finding what rejuvenates us most.
How do holidays help a person feel better and happier?
Holidays play a significant role in enhancing a person's overall well-being and happiness, primarily by providing a much-needed break from the daily grind. They offer an opportunity to recharge one's batteries, which is essential for mental health. By stepping away from work or routine responsibilities, individuals can immerse themselves in new experiences and cultures, fostering a sense of adventure and excitement. Moreover, holidays often facilitate quality time with loved ones, strengthening bonds and creating lasting memories that contribute to long-term happiness. Ultimately, these experiences can lead to a greater sense of fulfillment and a refreshed perspective on life.
Why do you think people usually pick certain places for their vacations?
People often choose specific destinations for their holidays for a variety of reasons. Firstly, many individuals are drawn to places that offer unique cultural experiences; they want to immerse themselves in different traditions, cuisines, and lifestyles. Additionally, some people are motivated by the allure of natural beauty, seeking out destinations that boast stunning landscapes, whether it’s a tropical beach or a majestic mountain range. Furthermore, accessibility and budget play a significant role; if a destination is easy to reach and affordable, it becomes much more appealing. Ultimately, the combination of personal interests, recommendations from others, and the desire for adventure all contribute to the choices people make when planning their getaways.
How could the idea of holidays change in the future as travel gets easier?
As travel becomes increasingly accessible, I believe the concept of holidays will evolve significantly. For one, we might see a shift from traditional vacation spots to more off-the-beaten-path destinations, as travelers seek unique experiences that aren’t overcrowded with tourists. Additionally, the rise of technology could lead to more personalized travel experiences, where people can tailor their trips to match their interests and preferences. Moreover, with the advent of virtual reality, it’s possible that some may opt for immersive experiences from the comfort of their homes, allowing them to explore different cultures without the logistical challenges of actual travel. Overall, the future of holidays could be a fascinating blend of convenience, personalization, and innovation, making travel not just more accessible, but also more enriching.
What steps can be taken to make sure that holidays are fun and memorable for everyone?
To ensure that holidays are enjoyable and memorable for everyone involved, it's essential to prioritize effective communication and planning. First, involving all participants in the decision-making process can lead to a more cohesive experience, as everyone has their own preferences and expectations. Additionally, incorporating a mix of activities that cater to different interests, such as cultural excursions and relaxation time, can help create a well-rounded experience. It's also important to remain flexible and adaptable, as unforeseen circumstances can arise during travel. Lastly, documenting these moments through photos or a travel journal can enhance the overall experience, allowing everyone to reflect on their adventures long after the holiday has ended. By focusing on these elements, holidays can truly become cherished memories for all involved.
