Speaking test #448
Part 1 · Interview
4 to 5 minutes. The examiner asks about you and familiar topics.
Can you tell me your full name?
Where are you from?
Do you work or are you a student?
Has your voice ever changed?
Yes, my voice has definitely undergone some changes over the years. As I have grown older, it has become deeper and more mature. Additionally, I have also developed better control and modulation of my voice through years of public speaking and acting.
Do you enjoy recording your voice and listening to it?
I must admit, I am not particularly fond of listening to my own voice. I find that it can be quite disconcerting, as it can sound quite different to how I perceive it in my head. However, I do appreciate the value of recording my voice for self-evaluation and improvement, particularly when it comes to public speaking or acting.
Are there some people’s voices you don’t like?
I wouldn’t say that I dislike any particular person's voice, but there are certain voices that I find less appealing than others. For example, I find high-pitched or nasal voices to be quite grating on the ears. However, I do understand that everyone's voice is unique and that it is not fair to judge someone based on their voice alone.
How does your voice change in different situations?
My voice can change quite dramatically depending on the situation. For example, when I am in a formal setting, such as a business meeting, I tend to speak in a more measured and controlled tone. However, when I am in a more relaxed and casual setting, such as with friends or family, my voice tends to be more animated and expressive. Additionally, when I am feeling particularly emotional, such as when I am feeling excited or upset, my voice can become quite high-pitched and dramatic.
Would you like to work as a volunteer?
I would definitely be interested in working as a volunteer. I believe that volunteering is a great way to give back to the community and make a positive impact on the lives of others. Additionally, it can also be a valuable personal development opportunity, as it allows me to gain new skills and experiences.
Have you ever done any voluntary work?
Yes, I have had the opportunity to participate in a number of volunteer projects over the years. For example, I have worked as a mentor for disadvantaged youth, helped to organize community events, and even spent some time working on conservation projects overseas. I find that volunteering is a very fulfilling experience, and I am always looking for new ways to get involved and make a difference.
Is volunteering worth the time it takes?
I would say that volunteering is definitely worth the time it takes. Not only do you have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of others, but you also gain a sense of personal satisfaction and fulfillment. Additionally, volunteering can be a great way to gain new skills, meet new people, and even improve your CV or job prospects.
What could you do to help if you had no money?
If I had no money, there are still a number of things I could do to help others. For example, I could offer my time and skills as a volunteer, or even simply offer a listening ear or a helping hand to someone in need. I believe that there are many ways to make a difference in the world, and money is not always the most important factor.

Part 3 · Discussion
4 to 5 minutes. The examiner asks broader questions linked to the cue card topic.
How can the feel of a music concert be different from that of a live theater show?
That's a great question! The atmosphere at a music concert is often electric, filled with a sense of shared excitement and energy that really gets the crowd involved. People are usually on their feet, dancing, and singing along, which creates a lively and spontaneous vibe. In contrast, a live theater performance tends to have a more intimate ambiance, where audiences are generally more reserved and focused on the storyline and the actors' performances. The emotions can be profound, but they unfold in a more controlled environment that encourages reflection and engagement with the narrative. Both experiences are fantastic in their own right, but they cater to different moods and expectations!
How much do you think going to live concerts can improve how someone enjoys music?
Attending live concerts can significantly enhance one’s appreciation of music, and I’d say it’s an experience that transcends simply listening to a recording. When you’re in the audience, you’re enveloped by the atmosphere—the energy of the crowd, the visual spectacle, and the raw emotion of the performers. This immersive experience often allows you to connect with the music on a deeper level, as you witness the nuances of live performance, such as improvisation and the interaction between musicians. Moreover, being part of a collective experience with fellow fans can create a sense of community and shared passion, which is incredibly powerful. Overall, I believe live concerts offer an unmatched opportunity to truly appreciate the artistry behind the music, elevating it from mere sound to an unforgettable experience.
How does live music help shape cultural identity in society?
Live music plays a pivotal role in shaping cultural identity by serving as a powerful medium for expressing shared values and traditions. It often acts as a cultural touchstone, bringing communities together and fostering a sense of belonging. For instance, local festivals featuring live performances can ignite a sense of pride in one's heritage, allowing individuals to connect with their roots while celebrating diversity. Moreover, live music can also challenge societal norms and provoke thought, encouraging people to reflect on their identities and the world around them. In essence, it not only entertains but also enriches our understanding of who we are as a community.
Why do you think people are usually ready to pay a lot of money to go to concerts?
People are often willing to spend a significant amount of money to attend concerts for several reasons. Firstly, live music has a unique energy that can't be replicated in recordings; the electric atmosphere of being surrounded by fellow fans creates a sense of community and collective experience. Additionally, concerts provide an opportunity to see artists perform their songs in a way that feels more authentic and personal, often making it a memorable event for attendees. Moreover, many people view concert attendance as a form of entertainment that offers lasting memories, especially when it comes to favorite artists or special occasions. Ultimately, for many, the thrill of live performances justifies the expense, as it contributes to a richer, more fulfilling lifestyle.
How could the future of live music shows be different because of new technology?
The future of live music events is likely to undergo some exhilarating transformations due to advancements in technology. For instance, with the rise of virtual reality and augmented reality, fans could enjoy immersive experiences from the comfort of their homes, bringing a whole new dimension to live performances. Imagine being able to attend a concert where you can feel like you're right on stage with the artists! Additionally, the use of sophisticated sound systems and lighting technology can elevate the overall concert experience, making it even more captivating. However, while these innovations are exciting, I believe that the raw energy and connection of a live audience will always remain invaluable, ensuring that traditional concerts continue to thrive alongside these tech-driven alternatives.
What steps can organizers take to make the concert experience better for attendees?
To enhance the overall experience of concert attendees, organizers can implement several effective measures. First and foremost, ensuring efficient crowd management is crucial. This can involve better signage and well-trained staff to guide attendees smoothly to their seats, minimizing confusion and delays. Additionally, they might consider incorporating interactive elements into the event, like live social media feeds or fan engagement activities, which can make the experience feel more personal and immersive. Moreover, offering a variety of food and beverage options can significantly elevate the atmosphere, allowing attendees to enjoy a broader range of tastes while they wait for the performance to start. Lastly, providing ample facilities such as clean restrooms and charging stations can greatly contribute to a more comfortable and enjoyable environment. When all these aspects come together, it truly transforms a concert into a memorable experience!
