Part 1 · Interview
4 to 5 minutes. The examiner asks about you and familiar topics.
Can you tell me your full name?
Where are you from?
Do you work or are you a student?
Did you always pay attention in your lessons at school? [why/why not?
?] To be honest, I can't say I always paid attention in my lessons at school. I think it's pretty normal for students to get a bit distracted or disinterested in certain subjects, especially if they're not particularly engaging or relevant to their interests. That being said, I did try my best to focus and absorb as much information as possible, especially when it came to exams or important assignments.
Do you find it easy to concentrate when you are in a noisy place? [why/why not?
?] It can be a bit of a challenge for me to concentrate in a noisy place, especially if there are a lot of distractions or interruptions. I think it's just human nature to get a bit distracted by outside stimuli, and it can be hard to stay focused on a task when there are a lot of other things going on around you. That being said, I do try my best to find a quiet and distraction-free space to work or study in whenever possible.
When is it particularly important for you to concentrate? [why?
?] There are a few different situations when it's particularly important for me to concentrate. For example, when I'm working on an important project or presentation, I need to be fully focused and engaged in order to deliver the best possible results. Similarly, when I'm studying for an exam or trying to learn something new, I need to be able to concentrate in order to absorb and retain the information. In these cases, my ability to concentrate directly impacts my success and achievements, so it's really important for me to focus and give my full attention to the task at hand.
What do you do to help yourself concentrate better? [why/why not?
?] There are a few things I do to help myself concentrate better. For one, I try to eliminate as many distractions as possible. This might mean turning off my phone, finding a quiet and comfortable workspace, or even just closing my eyes and taking a few deep breaths to clear my mind. I also try to set specific goals and priorities for each task, as this helps me stay focused and motivated. Finally, I try to take breaks and move around a bit, as this can help energize me and improve my overall concentration and productivity.
Do you do some cooking or help your family cook at home now?
Yes, I do enjoy cooking and helping out in the kitchen at home. It's a great way to relax and try out new recipes.
Did you do some house cleaning when you were young?
Yes, I did. It's important to take care of your living space and keep it clean and organized. I learned this lesson at a young age and have tried to carry it with me throughout my life.
Do you have breakfast at home everyday?
I try to have breakfast at home every day. It's a great way to start the day off on the right foot and get some fuel in your system before tackling the day's tasks.
Do you want to learn how to cook well?
Absolutely! I'm always looking to improve my cooking skills and try out new techniques and recipes. There's something so satisfying about creating a delicious meal from scratch, and it's a great way to bond with others as well.

What the fish market looked like
I vividly remember visiting a bustling fish market in Mumbai, India, which left a lasting impression on me. The market was a vibrant and chaotic scene, with rows of vendors displaying their fresh catch on ice-filled counters. The colorful array of fish, from shimmering silver pomfrets to giant prawns, created a fascinating sight against the backdrop of the Arabian Sea glimmering in the distance.
The variety of fish available
The variety of fish available at the market was astounding. Along with the local favorites like bombil and surmai, there were exotic species such as kingfish and red snapper. Each stall seemed to offer a unique selection, showcasing the rich diversity of marine life found in the coastal waters of India. The vendors were skilled at filleting and cleaning the fish, ready to be cooked into delicious seafood dishes.
The sounds and smells of the market
As I navigated through the narrow lanes of the market, the air was filled with a symphony of sounds and smells. The vendors enthusiastically shouted out their prices, trying to attract customers, while the clang of metal against ice bins added to the lively atmosphere. The pungent scent of the sea mixed with the aroma of freshly caught fish, creating a sensory overload that was both exhilarating and overwhelming.
Your overall experience at the market

What makes the vibe of a fish market different from other markets?
The atmosphere of a fish market is truly unique and vibrant, setting it apart from other types of markets. For starters, there's an undeniable buzz of activity as vendors enthusiastically call out to potential buyers, showcasing their freshest catches. This lively interaction creates an engaging environment that often feels more communal than in, say, a grocery store where the atmosphere can be quite sterile. Additionally, the distinctive aroma of the sea permeates the air, adding to the sensory experience. There's also a fascinating visual aspect, with an array of colorful fish and shellfish displayed on ice, which often draws in curious onlookers. Overall, the blend of sounds, smells, and sights in a fish market contributes to its dynamic and lively character.
Lots of people see fish markets differently when it comes to cleanliness. What do you think about how clean they are?
I think the hygiene standards at fish markets can vary significantly, but it's crucial for them to maintain a high level of cleanliness. Fresh seafood can be quite susceptible to spoilage, which makes it essential for vendors to adhere to strict sanitary practices. When I visit a fish market, I'm always on the lookout for signs of freshness, like clear eyes and vibrant colors, as these can indicate how well the fish has been handled. Moreover, I believe that local regulations should enforce regular inspections to ensure that these markets uphold their hygiene standards. Ultimately, consumers should feel confident that they are purchasing safe and fresh seafood, so it’s really a matter of public health and trust.
How do fish markets help the local economy and community?
Fish markets play a crucial role in both the local economy and the community at large. They serve as a vibrant hub where fishermen can sell their fresh catches, which not only provides them with a sustainable income but also contributes to the local livelihood. Moreover, these markets foster a sense of community by bringing together residents and visitors, creating a lively atmosphere that promotes social interaction. Additionally, fish markets often stimulate other sectors of the economy, such as restaurants and food vendors, creating a ripple effect that boosts local businesses. They also provide an opportunity for people to access fresh, healthy seafood, which is essential for a balanced diet. Overall, fish markets are more than just places to buy fish; they are vibrant community spaces that enhance social cohesion and support economic growth.
Why do some people prefer fish markets instead of seafood sections in supermarkets?
I believe fish markets hold a certain charm that attracts many people, especially those who appreciate the freshness of their seafood. Unlike supermarket sections, where fish might sit for days, fish markets often offer a selection that’s just been caught, which is a huge draw for culinary enthusiasts. Additionally, there's a vibrant atmosphere at fish markets that you simply can't replicate in a supermarket; the sounds, the sights, and even the aromas create an experience that's almost immersive. For many, it’s not just about buying seafood, but it’s also about connecting with local fishermen and supporting the community. Plus, you often find a wider variety of fish and shellfish that aren’t available in mainstream stores.
How could fish markets change in the future because of online grocery shopping?
The rise of online grocery shopping is poised to dramatically transform the landscape of fish markets in the coming years. As more consumers embrace the convenience of home delivery, traditional fish markets may need to adapt by enhancing their online presence. This could mean offering live-streaming services where customers can choose their seafood directly from the market, ensuring they still experience that fresh catch feeling. Additionally, we might see a shift towards sustainable sourcing becoming a key selling point, with online platforms highlighting eco-friendly practices to attract environmentally conscious shoppers. Overall, while some may lament the decline of the traditional market experience, it could pave the way for a more innovative shopping experience that appeals to a broader audience.
How can we make fish markets more sustainable?
To enhance the sustainability of fish markets, several measures can be implemented. First and foremost, it's crucial to establish stricter regulations on overfishing, ensuring that only sustainably sourced fish are available for sale. This could involve promoting the use of certification programs that identify and endorse fisheries that practice responsible fishing methods. Additionally, educating consumers about the importance of choosing sustainably sourced seafood can create a shift in demand, encouraging vendors to prioritize these options. Lastly, implementing community-based initiatives, such as local fishery cooperatives, can foster a sense of responsibility among fishermen while also supporting the local economy. Overall, these initiatives could lead to a more sustainable future for fish markets and the ocean ecosystems they rely on.
