Part 1 · Interview

4 to 5 minutes. The examiner asks about you and familiar topics.

Introduction · Q1

Can you tell me your full name?

Introduction · Q2

Where are you from?

Introduction · Q3

Do you work or are you a student?

Morning · Q1

Do you like to get up early in the morning?

I am definitely an early riser. I find that there is something very refreshing and energizing about starting the day before the sun comes up. The quiet of the morning and the sense of accomplishment that comes with getting a head start on the day is something that I find very appealing.

Morning · Q2

What is your morning routine?

My morning routine starts with me getting up at around 6am. After that, I make myself a cup of coffee and sit down with my journal to do some morning writing. This is a great way for me to clear my head and get my thoughts in order before the day begins. After that, I spend some time stretching and doing yoga to get my body moving and energized. After that, I take a shower and get dressed for the day.

Morning · Q3

What did you do in the morning when you were little?

When I was little, my mornings were pretty low key. I would usually wake up around 7am and spend some time watching cartoons or playing with my toys. After that, I would have breakfast and then spend some time getting ready for school. I always loved the mornings when I was a kid because it was a time to be carefree and to just enjoy the day ahead.

Morning · Q4

Is there any difference between what you do in the morning now and what you did in the past?

There is definitely a difference between what I do in the morning now and what I did in the past. As a child, my mornings were all about play and fun. Now, as an adult, my mornings are focused on getting myself prepared for the day ahead. I spend more time on self-care and self-improvement activities like yoga and journaling, and less time on leisure activities. But overall, I still enjoy waking up early and starting my day before the sun comes up.

Museums/ Art Galleries · Q1

Do you think museums are important?

Absolutely, I believe that museums are incredibly important. They provide us with an opportunity to learn about different cultures, historical events, and scientific discoveries. They also help to preserve and protect important artifacts, artworks, and documents that would otherwise be lost to time. Without museums, our understanding of the world and our place in it would be greatly diminished.

Museums/ Art Galleries · Q2

Are there many museums in your hometown?

There are quite a few museums in my hometown, although the selection is not as extensive as in some larger cities. We have a few historical museums, as well as an art museum and a science museum. However, I would say that we don't have as many as I would like. I think it would be great if we had more museums that focused on different aspects of our local history and culture.

Museums/ Art Galleries · Q3

Do you often visit a museum?

I try to visit a museum as often as possible. I find that they are always a great source of inspiration and education. I especially enjoy visiting museums when I travel, as it gives me an opportunity to learn more about the local culture and history. I find that museums are a great way to gain a deeper understanding of the world around me.

Museums/ Art Galleries · Q4

When was the last time you visited a museum?

The last time I visited a museum was last month. I went to the local art museum and saw an exhibition of contemporary art from around the world. It was an incredible experience, and I was struck by the diversity and creativity of the artworks on display. I found the exhibition to be both thought-provoking and inspiring, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in contemporary art.

Part 3 · Discussion

4 to 5 minutes. The examiner asks broader questions linked to the cue card topic.

Discussion · Q1

How do different school subjects affect people in different ways?

The impact of different subjects in education can vary significantly among individuals due to a multitude of factors, including personal interests, career aspirations, and even cultural backgrounds. For instance, a student who has a passion for the arts might find subjects like music or drama profoundly enriching, while another who is inclined towards science may thrive in biology or chemistry classes. This variation often stems from the different ways in which individuals engage with and internalize knowledge—some might prefer hands-on learning, while others excel through theoretical study. Furthermore, the influence of a subject can be compounded by the quality of teaching and the resources available, which can either inspire or hinder a student's enthusiasm. Ultimately, education is not a one-size-fits-all experience; it’s shaped by the unique perspectives and motivations of each learner.

Discussion · Q2

Some people may think that hands-on subjects are better than academic ones. What do you think about this?

I absolutely see where that perspective comes from! Practical subjects often provide students with real-world skills that can be immediately applied, which is incredibly valuable. For instance, fields like engineering or medicine require a hands-on approach to truly grasp the concepts and tackle real-life challenges. However, I believe that theoretical subjects lay the essential groundwork for understanding those practical applications. In essence, a balance between the two is crucial; while practical skills are vital, theoretical knowledge enriches our understanding and enhances our ability to innovate. Ultimately, both types of subjects play a pivotal role in preparing individuals for their future careers.

Discussion · Q3

How do you think classes that teach life skills help a person grow and develop?

Subjects that teach life skills play a crucial role in a person's overall development, as they equip individuals with the necessary tools to navigate the complexities of adult life. For instance, courses that cover financial literacy or communication skills can significantly enhance a person's ability to manage their finances or build meaningful relationships. These subjects often foster critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, which are essential in both personal and professional settings. Moreover, they help cultivate a sense of independence and confidence, allowing individuals to tackle real-world challenges head-on. In an ever-changing world, I believe that these skills are just as important as traditional academic subjects, if not more so!

Discussion · Q4

Why do you think some topics connect better with people than others when it comes to their personal growth?

That's a fascinating question! I believe certain subjects resonate more deeply with individuals because they often align with their personal interests and life experiences. For instance, someone who has faced challenges in their life may find subjects related to psychology or resilience incredibly impactful, as they can see reflections of their own journey. Additionally, the way a subject is taught can play a significant role; engaging teaching methods can ignite a passion for learning that might not otherwise exist. Ultimately, when a subject connects with a person's values or aspirations, it can profoundly influence their personal development.

Discussion · Q5

How can the importance of a topic change as society develops over time?

The significance of a subject can shift dramatically as society evolves, reflecting changes in culture, technology, and values. For instance, consider the subject of environmental science; as climate change becomes an increasingly pressing issue, its importance has surged in educational curricula and public discourse. Similarly, subjects like history might be reassessed, leading to a more inclusive narrative that acknowledges diverse perspectives that were previously marginalized. This evolution underscores how knowledge is not static; it adapts to the needs and priorities of society, making education a dynamic process. Ultimately, subjects that resonate with current societal challenges or aspirations tend to gain prominence, shaping the way we understand our world.

Discussion · Q6

"What steps can schools take to help students learn practical skills from their subjects?"?

Educational institutions can adopt a variety of measures to ensure that students gain practical knowledge from their subjects. Firstly, integrating hands-on experience into the curriculum is crucial; this could involve real-world projects or partnerships with local businesses, allowing students to apply their theoretical knowledge in practical settings. Additionally, offering internships or work placements can significantly enhance students' understanding and provide them with valuable industry insights. Furthermore, incorporating interactive learning methods, such as workshops and simulations, can foster a more engaging learning environment. Ultimately, by adopting these strategies, educational institutions can bridge the gap between theory and practice, equipping students with the skills they need to thrive in their future careers.
