Part 1 · Interview
4 to 5 minutes. The examiner asks about you and familiar topics.
Can you tell me your full name?
Where are you from?
Do you work or are you a student?
How often do you spend time with your family?
I spend a good amount of time with my family on a regular basis. We usually make it a point to have a family dinner together at least once a week, and we also make sure to schedule other activities, such as trips or outings, on a regular basis as well.
How do you spend time with your family?
We spend time with each other in a variety of ways. We'll often go out for a meal together, either at a restaurant or for a picnic in the park. We also enjoy doing activities together, such as going to the movies, taking a trip to the beach, or going on a hike. We also like to spend time at home together, playing games or watching movies.
Do you want to live with your family in the future?
I wouldn't mind living with my family in the future, as long as everyone is on the same page. It's always nice to have the support and companionship of loved ones, especially as you grow older. However, I also value my independence and may choose to live on my own as well.
How has your family influenced you?
My family has had a significant impact on shaping me into the person I am today. They have always been supportive of my goals and aspirations, and have encouraged me to chase my dreams. Additionally, they have instilled strong values in me, such as the importance of hard work, honesty, and kindness. I am forever grateful for their guidance and love.
Have you visited a farm?
Oh yes, I've had the pleasure of visiting a few farms in my lifetime. It's always such a fascinating experience to see where our food comes from and the hard work that goes into producing it.
What kind of farm do you like?
I have a bit of a soft spot for small, family-run farms. There's something about the care and dedication that goes into running a small farm that really resonates with me. It's also really nice to see the unique, sustainable practices that these types of farms often employ.
Do you think farming is important?
Absolutely. Farming is the backbone of our food system, and without it we wouldn't have the variety or abundance of food that we have today. Additionally, farming plays an important role in maintaining the balance of nature, and preserving the rural way of life.
Did you do farm work when you were young?
I didn't grow up on a farm, so I didn't have the opportunity to do farm work during my youth. However, I did have the chance to help out on a few farms during summers in college, and it was a great learning experience. It gave me a whole new appreciation for the hard work and dedication that goes into producing our food.
You will have to talk about the topic for one to two minutes. You have one minute to think about what you are going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.

Part 3 · Discussion
4 to 5 minutes. The examiner asks broader questions linked to the cue card topic.
How can the ideal vacation spot change for different age groups?
That's a fascinating question! A perfect holiday destination can vary dramatically across age groups due to differing interests and life stages. For instance, young families might prioritize destinations that offer child-friendly activities and amenities, such as theme parks or beach resorts with safe swimming areas. In contrast, young adults often seek adventure and social experiences, so they might be drawn to vibrant cities with a lively nightlife or stunning hiking trails. Meanwhile, older travelers may prefer more tranquil spots, perhaps rich in culture and history, where they can relax and immerse themselves in the local lifestyle. Ultimately, it’s the unique preferences and priorities of each age group that shape their ideal getaway!
What things about a vacation spot do you think people usually care a lot about?
When it comes to choosing a holiday destination, people often feel passionately about a few key aspects. For many, the natural beauty of a place is a major draw; stunning landscapes and picturesque views can really enhance the experience. Additionally, the local culture and authentic cuisine play a significant role; travelers often seek destinations that offer a genuine taste of the local lifestyle. Safety and accessibility are also crucial; nobody wants to feel anxious while trying to enjoy their holiday! Lastly, the availability of activities, whether it’s adventure sports or relaxing spa treatments, can greatly influence people’s feelings towards a destination.
How important is it for a vacation spot to provide cultural experiences?
Cultural experiences are absolutely integral to the allure of a holiday destination! They not only provide travelers with a deeper understanding of the local way of life, but they also enrich the overall experience, making it more memorable. When visitors engage with local traditions, cuisine, and art, they create lasting connections that go beyond mere sightseeing. Moreover, these experiences can foster a sense of appreciation and respect for different cultures, which is crucial in our increasingly globalized world. Ultimately, a destination that emphasizes cultural immersion can truly elevate a trip from a standard getaway to a transformative journey!
Why do you think some people like calm vacations while others want exciting ones?
That's a fascinating question! I believe it largely comes down to individual personalities and what people find fulfilling. Some individuals thrive on the exhilaration that comes from adventure; they seek out new experiences and challenges that push them outside their comfort zones. For these people, the thrill of an action-packed holiday can be incredibly rewarding. On the other hand, there are those who find solace in relaxation, valuing the opportunity to unwind and recharge from the rigors of daily life. This contrast in preferences reflects our diverse needs for both excitement and tranquility, which ultimately shapes the kind of holidays we choose to embark on.
How could vacation spots change in the coming decades?
In the next few decades, I believe holiday destinations will undergo significant transformation, driven by rapid technological advancements and changing consumer preferences. For instance, we might see a rise in eco-friendly tourism, as more travelers prioritize sustainability and seek out destinations that promote environmental conservation. Additionally, with the advent of virtual reality experiences, people may start exploring locations from the comfort of their homes before deciding to visit, which could change the way we choose our travel spots. Moreover, as the world becomes increasingly interconnected, we might witness the emergence of off-the-beaten-path locations becoming more popular, as travelers seek unique experiences away from the usual tourist traps. Overall, the evolution of holiday destinations will likely reflect a blend of innovation and a deeper appreciation for cultural and natural heritage.
What actions can tourism boards do to make their places more attractive?
Tourism boards have a pivotal role in shaping the attractiveness of their destinations. Firstly, they could invest in effective marketing strategies that highlight unique cultural aspects and natural beauty. By leveraging social media platforms and influencer partnerships, they can reach a broader audience in an engaging way. Furthermore, offering tailored experiences that cater to diverse interests, such as adventure tourism, culinary tours, or eco-friendly travel, can significantly enhance their appeal. Lastly, ensuring that local communities are involved in tourism initiatives not only fosters a sense of authenticity but also contributes to sustainable growth, making the destination more inviting for travelers.
