Speaking test #587
Part 1 · Interview
4 to 5 minutes. The examiner asks about you and familiar topics.
Can you tell me your full name?
Where are you from?
Do you work or are you a student?
Do you often use a bag?
Oh absolutely, I use a bag pretty much every day. It's such a convenient way to carry all my essentials around, whether it's for work, running errands, or even just a quick trip to the store.
What types of bag do you like?
I have a bit of a thing for backpacks, to be honest. I love the versatility and comfort of a good backpack, and they're just so practical for everyday use. That being said, I also really appreciate a nice tote bag or shoulder bag for more formal occasions.
Do you have different bags for different occasions?
Definitely. I have a few different backpacks that I use for different purposes - one for work, one for the gym, and one for travel. And then I have a couple of different tote bags and shoulder bags that I use for more formal occasions, like meetings or events.
What kind of bags would you like to own in the future?
I'm always on the lookout for new and interesting bags to add to my collection. Currently, I'm really into the idea of a nice messenger bag - something stylish but still practical for everyday use. I'm also considering investing in a high-quality leather briefcase for more professional settings. Ultimately, I just love bags that are functional and stylish, and that can adapt to a variety of different situations.
Do you live in a house or an apartment?
I live in a house. It's a spacious three-bedroom home with a large garden and a garage. I love the feeling of having my own private space, and the garden is a real bonus for me.
Which is your favourite room in your home? Why?
My favourite room in my home is my living room. It's a cozy and comfortable space that is perfect for relaxing and entertaining. I love the natural light that floods in through the large windows, and the fireplace adds a warm and inviting touch. Plus, the view of the garden is just beautiful.
Would you change anything about your home? Why / why not?
I wouldn't change anything major about my home as I am very content with it the way it is. However, I would love to have a bigger kitchen as I love to cook and entertain. But overall, I am very happy with my home and don't feel the need to change anything.
Would you like to move to a different home in the future?
I am currently very content with my current home, but I can't rule out the possibility of moving in the future. I would consider it if the opportunity arises for a better location or a larger space. But for now, I am very happy where I am.
You will have to talk about the topic for one to two minutes. You have one minute to think about what you are going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.

Part 3 · Discussion
4 to 5 minutes. The examiner asks broader questions linked to the cue card topic.
How does a person who likes outdoor activities compare to someone who prefers indoor hobbies regarding their lifestyle and health?
That’s a fascinating question! Someone who enjoys outdoor activities typically leads a more active lifestyle, which usually translates into better physical health. They are often more engaged with nature, which can significantly enhance their mental well-being as well. In contrast, individuals who prefer indoor hobbies might lean towards more sedentary activities, which can lead to a less physically demanding lifestyle. However, it's worth noting that indoor hobbies can also provide significant cognitive benefits, like improved focus and creativity, depending on what they are. Overall, the key difference lies in the balance of physical and mental health benefits that each lifestyle offers!
How much do you believe people should take part in outdoor activities for their overall health?
I firmly believe that engaging in outdoor activities is crucial for our overall well-being. Not only does spending time outside offer immense physical benefits, such as improved cardiovascular health and strength, but it also plays a significant role in enhancing our mental state. Being in nature tends to reduce stress levels and can even alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression. Furthermore, outdoor activities often encourage social interaction, which is vital for building strong interpersonal relationships and fostering a sense of community. In my view, incorporating regular outdoor time into our lives can lead to a more balanced and fulfilling lifestyle.
How do outdoor activities help build a sense of community among people?
Outdoor activities play a significant role in fostering a sense of community among individuals, and I think this is one of their most enriching aspects. Engaging in activities like hiking, team sports, or community gardening brings people together, allowing them to forge connections and build relationships based on shared interests. When individuals participate in these activities, they often develop a sense of belonging, which can be incredibly powerful in creating a supportive environment. Moreover, these activities often require teamwork and collaboration, which can strengthen social bonds and help individuals cultivate trust and understanding with one another. Ultimately, outdoor pursuits not only promote physical well-being but also act as a catalyst for community spirit and camaraderie.
Why are some people interested in outdoor activities while others don't like them?
That's a fascinating question! I believe the attraction to outdoor activities often stems from personal preferences and upbringing. For some, spending time in nature can be incredibly refreshing and fulfilling, perhaps because they were raised in environments that encouraged exploration and adventure. On the other hand, those who prefer indoor activities might feel more comfortable in controlled settings, valuing the coziness and familiarity that comes with them. Additionally, factors like lifestyle choices and even personality traits can play a significant role; for instance, extroverted individuals may thrive in dynamic outdoor settings, while introverts might find their solace in quieter, indoor pursuits. Ultimately, it’s all about what resonates with each person's sense of joy and relaxation!
What might happen in society if more people decided to join outdoor activities regularly?
If more people embraced outdoor activities on a regular basis, I think we would see a significant shift in both physical and mental health within society. For starters, increased participation in activities like hiking, cycling, or even team sports would likely lead to a decrease in obesity rates and related health issues, contributing to a more active population overall. Moreover, spending time outdoors can greatly enhance mental well-being; people often report feeling more rejuvenated and less stressed after engaging with nature. In addition to health benefits, there could be a stronger sense of community as people come together for group activities or local events. This could foster deeper connections among individuals, breaking down social barriers and encouraging a more cohesive society. Lastly, with a growing appreciation for natural environments, we might also see increased advocacy for environmental conservation and sustainability initiatives, leading to a healthier planet in the long run.
What steps can be taken to get more people to join outdoor activities?
There are several effective measures that could be implemented to encourage more individuals to engage in outdoor activities. Firstly, local governments could invest in creating and maintaining accessible green spaces, such as parks and trails, which would naturally draw people outside. Additionally, organizing community events, like outdoor festivals or sports competitions, can foster a sense of camaraderie and excitement around outdoor activities. Moreover, educational programs that highlight the health benefits of spending time outdoors could be extremely beneficial, particularly for young people who are often glued to their screens. Lastly, partnering with schools to include outdoor learning experiences in their curriculums could instill a love for nature from a young age, setting the stage for a lifelong appreciation of outdoor activities.
