I make telephone calls quite frequently, probably on a daily basis. I would say that I make around 3-4 calls a day on average.

Telephoning · Q4

Do you sometimes prefer to send a text message instead of telephoning?

Yes, I do prefer to send text messages instead of telephoning in certain situations. For example, if I need to quickly convey a short message or if I'm in a noisy or crowded place, I find that sending a text message is more convenient and efficient. Additionally, it allows me to communicate with people in different time zones, as they can respond to the message at their convenience.

Television and Radio · Q1

What kind of entertainment do you prefer, TV or radio?

I would have to say that I prefer TV over radio. I find that the visual aspect of television adds an extra layer of engagement and immersion to the content that I am watching. However, I do appreciate the convenience and simplicity of listening to the radio, especially when I am on the go or doing other tasks.

Television and Radio · Q2

How are radio programs and television programs different?

Well, one of the most obvious differences between radio programs and television programs is the presence of visual elements on television. Television programs also tend to be more elaborate in terms of production value and special effects, whereas radio programs rely solely on audio to convey their message. Additionally, television programs often have a wider range of genres and formats, such as dramas, comedies, and reality shows, whereas radio programs tend to be more limited in this regard.

I find that the visuals and graphics used in TV news broadcasts help to better convey the information and give me a better understanding of the events that are being reported. Additionally, I find that TV news programs often provide more in-depth coverage and analysis of the stories they are reporting on. However, I do appreciate the convenience and immediacy of listening to news updates on the radio when I am on the go or away from a TV.

239 words · 4 paragraphs
Point 1

What service it was

I once experienced poor service at a renowned restaurant in my city, which prompted me to file a complaint. The incident took place last month when I visited the restaurant with my family to celebrate my mother's birthday. Despite having made a reservation, we were kept waiting for almost an hour before being seated, which was highly disappointing considering the occasion.

Point 2

When and where you received the service

The service further deteriorated as we waited for another 30 minutes without anyone attending to our table. When the food finally arrived, it was cold and poorly presented, indicating a lack of attention to detail and quality. The staff seemed disorganized and overwhelmed, leading to a chaotic dining experience that tarnished what was supposed to be a special celebration for my mother.

Point 3

Why you found the service not good

Feeling dissatisfied with the overall experience, I decided to address my concerns with the restaurant manager before leaving. I calmly explained the series of disappointments we had encountered and how it had affected our celebration negatively. I requested a refund for the subpar service and emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards, especially in a reputed establishment like theirs.

Point 4

How you complained about it

To my relief, the manager was apologetic and understanding of my feedback. He assured me that they would investigate the matter and take necessary actions to prevent such incidents in the future. I left the restaurant feeling hopeful that my complaint would bring about positive changes in their service quality, ensuring a better experience for future customers.

Part 3 · Discussion

4 to 5 minutes. The examiner asks broader questions linked to the cue card topic.

Discussion · Q1

How do bad service experiences in places like hotels and stores affect what customers expect?

Experiences of poor service can significantly shape customer expectations across various industries like hospitality and retail. When individuals encounter unsatisfactory service, they often become more discerning and develop heightened expectations for future interactions. For instance, if a diner has a negative experience at a restaurant, they might approach their next dining experience with a critical eye, anticipating potential flaws. This shift not only affects their personal expectations but can also influence their reviews and recommendations to others, thereby impacting the broader perception of the industry. Ultimately, the ripple effect of poor service can lead to a more demanding clientele, pushing businesses to prioritize exceptional customer service to maintain their reputation and retain patrons.

Discussion · Q2

How can people see customer service differently when it comes to improving a business's reputation?

People can have varying perspectives on the significance of customer service for a multitude of reasons. For some, exceptional customer service is seen as the cornerstone of a successful business, as it fosters loyalty and encourages positive word-of-mouth referrals. They believe that a strong reputation is built through consistent, high-quality interactions with customers, which ultimately leads to repeat business. On the other hand, some might argue that while customer service is important, it pales in comparison to factors like product quality or pricing, which can often drive consumer choices. Additionally, in today’s digital age, some may point out that online reviews and social media presence can outweigh direct customer interactions, shifting the focus away from traditional customer service. This divergence in views really highlights how different priorities can shape our understanding of what truly enhances a business's reputation.

Discussion · Q3

How does customer service affect how well a business does?

Customer service is absolutely pivotal in determining the overall success of a business. It acts as the face of the company, shaping how customers perceive the brand and influencing their loyalty. When businesses provide exceptional customer service, they not only meet but often exceed customer expectations, leading to positive word-of-mouth and repeat business. On the flip side, poor customer service can quickly tarnish a company's reputation, driving customers away and impacting revenue. In today's competitive market, where choices are abundant, businesses that prioritize customer service often find themselves with a significant competitive advantage.

Discussion · Q4

Why do you think some people are more likely to speak up about bad service than others?

I think the tendency to voice complaints about poor service really varies from person to person, primarily due to personality traits and past experiences. Some individuals are naturally more assertive and believe that speaking up is a way to advocate for themselves or others, which can lead to a more positive outcome. On the other hand, people who tend to be more reserved may feel uncomfortable confronting service personnel, fearing confrontation or potential conflict. Additionally, previous experiences can play a significant role; if someone has had a positive outcome from voicing their concerns in the past, they might be more likely to speak up in the future. Ultimately, it seems that a combination of personal disposition and previous encounters shapes how people respond to poor service.

Discussion · Q5

How could customer service change in the next few years, particularly with new technology?

The landscape of customer service is poised for a dramatic transformation, largely driven by cutting-edge technology. I believe we’ll see an increasing reliance on artificial intelligence, with chatbots and virtual assistants becoming even more sophisticated. These tools will not only handle routine inquiries but also provide a personalized experience by analyzing customer data and preferences. Moreover, the integration of omni-channel communication will enable customers to interact seamlessly across various platforms, whether it's via social media, email, or live chat. As a result, businesses will be able to respond to customer needs in real-time, fostering a sense of connection and satisfaction that was previously unattainable. Overall, I think the future of customer service will be more efficient, personalized, and ultimately more satisfying for consumers.

Discussion · Q6

What steps can businesses take to make their customer service better and lower complaints?

To enhance their customer service and minimize dissatisfaction, businesses can adopt a multifaceted approach. First and foremost, investing in comprehensive staff training is crucial, as empowered employees are more likely to provide exceptional service. Additionally, implementing feedback mechanisms, such as surveys or suggestion boxes, allows businesses to actively listen to their customers' needs and concerns, fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Another effective measure is the use of technology, like chatbots and customer relationship management systems, which can streamline inquiries and ensure a quicker response time. Ultimately, prioritizing customer satisfaction not only builds loyalty but also enhances a company's reputation in the market.
