Speaking test #746
Part 1 · Interview
4 to 5 minutes. The examiner asks about you and familiar topics.
Can you tell me your full name?
Where are you from?
Do you work or are you a student?
How often do you visit your relatives?
I visit my relatives on a fairly regular basis, usually every few months or so. It all depends on my schedule and how busy I am with work and other commitments. But I always try to make time to see them, as I value family greatly.
What do you do when you visit your relatives?
When I visit my relatives, we usually catch up on everything that's been going on in our lives. We'll talk about what's been happening with work, school, and any recent accomplishments or milestones. We'll also usually cook together and share meals, which is always a lot of fun.
Do people need to visit their relatives?
I believe that it's important for people to visit their relatives, as it helps to strengthen family bonds and keep those relationships strong. Regular visits can also be a great way to stay connected and in touch with loved ones, even if they live far away.
Do you prefer to visit your relatives or friends?
I enjoy visiting both my relatives and friends, but I have to say that I probably have a slight preference for visiting my relatives. I find that spending time with family is always comforting and grounding, and I always leave feeling recharged and refreshed. But I also love spending time with my friends, as it's a great way to relax and have fun.
Has your voice ever changed?
Yes, my voice has definitely undergone some changes over the years. As I have grown older, it has become deeper and more mature. Additionally, I have also developed better control and modulation of my voice through years of public speaking and acting.
Do you enjoy recording your voice and listening to it?
I must admit, I am not particularly fond of listening to my own voice. I find that it can be quite disconcerting, as it can sound quite different to how I perceive it in my head. However, I do appreciate the value of recording my voice for self-evaluation and improvement, particularly when it comes to public speaking or acting.
Are there some people’s voices you don’t like?
I wouldn’t say that I dislike any particular person's voice, but there are certain voices that I find less appealing than others. For example, I find high-pitched or nasal voices to be quite grating on the ears. However, I do understand that everyone's voice is unique and that it is not fair to judge someone based on their voice alone.
How does your voice change in different situations?
My voice can change quite dramatically depending on the situation. For example, when I am in a formal setting, such as a business meeting, I tend to speak in a more measured and controlled tone. However, when I am in a more relaxed and casual setting, such as with friends or family, my voice tends to be more animated and expressive. Additionally, when I am feeling particularly emotional, such as when I am feeling excited or upset, my voice can become quite high-pitched and dramatic.
You will have to talk about the topic for one to two minutes. You have one minute to think about what you are going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.

What health problem it was
Health is of utmost importance, and unfortunately, I faced a significant health problem a few years ago - I was diagnosed with severe migraines. The throbbing headaches began unexpectedly during a stressful period in my life. Initially, I brushed them off as regular headaches, but soon they intensified and became debilitating.
When and how it started
The migraines started impacting my daily life significantly. I found it hard to concentrate on tasks, socialize, or even enjoy simple activities. The pain was excruciating, and it made it challenging for me to function normally. I had to frequently cancel plans and take time off work, which affected my productivity and overall well-being.
How it affected your daily life
Realizing the severity of the issue, I decided to take proactive steps to address the health problem. I consulted a specialist who recommended a combination of medication, lifestyle changes, and stress management techniques. I diligently followed the treatment plan, which included regular exercise, proper hydration, and stress-reducing activities like yoga and meditation.

Part 3 · Discussion
4 to 5 minutes. The examiner asks broader questions linked to the cue card topic.
How do various health issues impact people's lives in different ways?
Health problems can have a profound impact on individuals, and the effects often vary significantly based on the nature of the illness. For instance, chronic conditions like diabetes or heart disease can lead to a dramatic lifestyle change, necessitating constant monitoring and dietary adjustments, which can be quite overwhelming for some. On the other hand, mental health issues, such as anxiety or depression, might not always be visible but can profoundly affect daily functioning and relationships, leading to a sense of isolation. Furthermore, the socioeconomic status of a person can influence how health problems affect them; those with limited resources may struggle more with access to treatment compared to those who are financially stable. Ultimately, the way a health issue manifests in someone's life is as unique as the individual themselves.
Some people may think that health problems come more from how we live than from our genes. What does this mean?
That’s a fascinating question! When we consider health issues primarily as a result of lifestyle choices, it really underscores the importance of personal responsibility in maintaining our well-being. It implies that individuals have the power to make informed decisions about their diets, exercise routines, and even mental health practices. This perspective can encourage more proactive approaches to health, such as adopting a balanced diet or engaging in regular physical activity, which can significantly reduce the risk of chronic diseases. However, it’s also crucial to recognize that this view might oversimplify the complex interplay between genetics and lifestyle, leading to potential stigma against those who struggle with health issues regardless of their efforts. Overall, while lifestyle choices play a pivotal role, we must acknowledge the multifaceted nature of health to foster a more comprehensive understanding.
How important is mental health for a person's overall well-being?
Mental health plays a crucial role in the overall well-being of individuals, and its significance cannot be overstated. It affects not just how we feel, but also how we think and act, ultimately shaping our relationships and daily experiences. When mental health is prioritized, people are more likely to engage in healthy behaviors, maintain strong social connections, and cope effectively with stress. Conversely, neglecting mental health can lead to a cascade of issues, including physical health problems and diminished quality of life. It's fascinating to see how increasing awareness around mental health is gradually transforming societal attitudes, making it a vital conversation to have.
Why do you think some health issues are more common in certain groups of people or areas?
That's a fascinating question! I believe certain health problems often stem from a combination of factors, including socioeconomic status, lifestyle choices, and even genetic predispositions. For instance, in urban areas where people lead a more sedentary lifestyle and have easy access to fast food, we see higher rates of obesity and related diseases. Conversely, in rural regions, lack of access to healthcare can lead to untreated conditions, making certain illnesses more common there. Additionally, cultural practices and beliefs can significantly influence health behaviors, which explains why some demographics might struggle with specific health issues more than others. Overall, it’s a complex interplay of various elements that shapes the health landscape of different communities.
How could new technology change healthcare and how we handle health issues in the future?
Advancements in technology are poised to revolutionize the healthcare landscape in several exciting ways. For instance, the rise of telemedicine allows patients to consult with healthcare professionals from the comfort of their homes, significantly improving access to medical care, especially in rural areas. Furthermore, the integration of artificial intelligence into diagnostic processes can lead to quicker and more accurate diagnoses, potentially saving countless lives that might otherwise be lost due to late detection. Additionally, wearable health devices are becoming increasingly popular, enabling individuals to monitor their health in real-time and take proactive steps towards maintaining their well-being. This shift towards preventative care, fueled by technology, encourages a more engaged approach to health management. Overall, the future of healthcare, driven by these advancements, promises to be more efficient, personalized, and accessible than ever before!
What steps can be taken to inform people about health problems in their communities?
Raising awareness about health issues in communities is absolutely essential, and there are several effective measures that can be implemented. Firstly, organizing community workshops and seminars led by healthcare professionals can provide invaluable information and direct engagement with residents. These events can cover a wide range of topics, from nutrition to mental health, ensuring that people are well-informed about the issues that affect them most. Additionally, leveraging social media platforms can serve as a powerful tool to disseminate information quickly and engage younger audiences, making health education accessible to everyone. Lastly, collaborating with local schools to incorporate health education into their curricula can instill a sense of awareness from an early age, fostering a culture of health consciousness that lasts a lifetime.
