Speaking test #852
Part 1 · Interview
4 to 5 minutes. The examiner asks about you and familiar topics.
Can you tell me your full name?
Where are you from?
Do you work or are you a student?
Do you write a lot?
Yes, I do write a lot. I find it to be a great way to express myself and to explore my thoughts and ideas. Whether it's through journaling, blogging, or writing fiction, I always make sure to set aside some time each day to write.
What do you like to write about?
I like to write about a variety of different subjects and themes. I find that my writing is often influenced by my personal experiences, so I like to write about things that I have lived through or that have affected me in some way. I also enjoy writing about social issues and current events, as I feel that it gives me a chance to engage with the world around me in a meaningful way.
Should children be taught creative writing from an early age?
I believe that children should definitely be taught creative writing from an early age. Not only is it an important way to develop their language skills and imagination, but it can also be a great way to help them process their emotions and understand the world around them. By encouraging children to express themselves through writing, we can help them develop important skills that will serve them well throughout their lives.
Would you like to become a famous author?
I would love to become a famous author. I think it would be an amazing feeling to know that my words have touched the hearts of people all over the world. However, I also realize that fame and success are not the only things that matter. I am content with creating something that resonates with people and that they can relate to. So, while I would be thrilled to become a famous author, I am also content with the idea of writing simply for the love of it. Overall, I would be happy with whatever outcome my writing brings me.
What kinds of advertisements do you watch?
I tend to watch advertisements that are relevant to my interests or needs. For example, if I'm in the market for a new car, I'll pay extra attention to car advertisements. I also appreciate advertisements that are well-made and creatively produced, regardless of the product being advertised.
Where can you see advertisements?
Advertisements can be seen in a variety of places, including on television, online, on billboards and posters, in newspapers and magazines, and even on the sides of buses or on the backs of receipts.
Have you ever bought something because of its advertisement?
Yes, I have definitely made purchases because of an advertisement before. Whether it's a product or a service, an effective advertisement can definitely influence my decision to make a purchase.
Do you watch advertisements from the beginning to the end?
It really depends on the advertisement. If I'm interested in the product or service being advertised, then I'll likely watch the whole thing. On the other hand, if the advertisement is not relevant to me or is poorly made, I'll probably tune it out before it's over.

How you met this friend
I would like to talk about my close friend Riya, whom I met during my college days. We were introduced by a mutual friend at a social event, and from the very first conversation, we hit it off instantly. Riya's warm and friendly nature made it easy for me to connect with her, and we soon discovered that we had many common interests and values.
What you like to do together
One of the things that I cherish the most about my friendship with Riya is our shared love for travel and adventure. Whenever we get the chance, we plan spontaneous trips to explore new places, try different cuisines, and create unforgettable memories together. Whether it's hiking in the mountains or relaxing on a beach, we always have a great time in each other's company.
How this friend has helped you in the past
Riya has been a pillar of strength for me during some challenging times in my life. When I was going through a tough breakup last year, she was there for me every step of the way, offering a listening ear, words of encouragement, and unwavering support. Her empathy and understanding helped me cope with the situation and emerge stronger than before.
Why this friendship is important to you
This friendship is incredibly important to me because Riya is not just a friend but a confidante and a source of positivity in my life. She brings out the best in me, motivates me to pursue my goals, and celebrates my achievements as if they were her own. Our bond is based on trust, respect, and genuine care for each other, and I am grateful to have her by my side through all the ups and downs of life.

Part 3 · Discussion
4 to 5 minutes. The examiner asks broader questions linked to the cue card topic.
How do close friends and acquaintances differ in how they interact and relate to each other?
Close friends and acquaintances represent two distinct levels of social connection. While acquaintances might share a casual rapport, close friends tend to have a deep emotional bond that fosters trust and understanding. For instance, with a close friend, you can share your innermost thoughts and feelings without the fear of judgment, whereas with an acquaintance, conversations often remain superficial and light-hearted. Moreover, close friends actively engage in each other's lives, providing support during tough times, whereas acquaintances may only offer a polite smile or small talk. This level of commitment and intimacy is what truly differentiates the two types of relationships and enriches our social experiences.
How much do you think having a close friend can affect a person's growth?
Having a close friend can have a profound impact on an individual's personal growth. When you have someone who understands you and supports your aspirations, it creates a nurturing environment where you can thrive. Close friends often challenge each other to step out of their comfort zones, which is essential for self-discovery and development. They can provide valuable feedback and different perspectives, helping you to refine your thoughts and ideas. Ultimately, the influence of a close friend can catalyze significant changes in one's life, shaping their values and motivations in remarkable ways.
How important do you think friendships are for keeping good mental health?
Friendships play an incredibly significant role in maintaining mental health. They provide a vital support system, allowing people to share their thoughts and feelings, which can be a huge relief during tough times. When you have friends you can lean on, it creates a sense of belonging and emotional security that can combat feelings of loneliness and anxiety. Moreover, engaging in social activities with friends often encourages a more active lifestyle, which is another key factor in overall well-being. In essence, friendships not only enrich our lives but are also essential to fostering a positive mindset and resilience against mental health challenges.
Why do people usually share their secrets with close friends instead of family?
People often choose to confide in close friends rather than family members for a variety of reasons. Firstly, friends typically provide a sense of emotional safety; they are often seen as more impartial and less likely to judge. This creates an atmosphere where individuals feel comfortable sharing their innermost thoughts and feelings without the fear of family repercussions. Additionally, friends often share similar life experiences, which allows them to offer relatable advice and support that resonates more deeply. Lastly, the bond of friendship can sometimes feel less complicated than family ties, making it easier for people to be open and honest.
How could friendship change in the future because of new technology?
That's a fascinating question! I believe that as technology continues to advance, the concept of friendship will undergo significant transformation. With the rise of social media and virtual reality, for instance, people may forge connections that transcend geographical boundaries, allowing for a more global network of relationships. However, while this can enhance our ability to connect, it may also lead to a sense of superficiality in friendships, as digital interactions often lack the depth of face-to-face conversations. Ultimately, I think we'll see a blend of traditional and modern forms of friendship, where genuine connections remain vital, but are enriched by new technological tools. It's an exciting prospect that will likely redefine how we perceive intimacy and companionship in the years to come!
What can people do to make their friendships stronger over time?
To strengthen friendships over time, individuals can take several thoughtful actions. Firstly, regular communication is crucial; whether it's through phone calls, texts, or social media, staying in touch helps to maintain the bond. Additionally, making an effort to spend quality time together, whether it's through shared hobbies or simply grabbing a coffee, can significantly enhance the relationship. Another great way is to be supportive during tough times; being there for friends not only solidifies the friendship but also builds a sense of trust and loyalty. Lastly, celebrating milestones together, like birthdays or achievements, can really add a personal touch and remind each other of the importance of the relationship. In essence, it’s all about being present and showing that you care!
