The bar chart provides information about the quantity of male and female postgraduate research students in six different scientific disciplines at a British university in 2009.
At a glance, it is clear that males were the majority in four of the six subjects, with females only outnumbering males in two. Furthermore, the subject with the most students was Chemistry, while the least popular was Physics.
Looking more closely, Chemistry had the highest number of students, with 175 males and 125 females. It was closely followed by Computer Science, which had a significantly higher number of males (150) than females (50). Biology and Math had almost equal numbers of both genders, with Biology having slightly more females and Math having slightly more males.
In contrast, Environmental Science and Physics had the least number of students. Environmental Science had a higher number of females (80) than males (70), making it one of the two subjects where females outnumbered males. Physics, on the other hand, had the lowest number of students overall, with only 50 males and 20 females.
