The line graph compares the percentage of people aged 65 or above from 1940 to 2040 in Japan, Sweden, and the USA.
Overall, it is clear that the elderly population in all three countries is predicted to rise over the given period, with Japan seeing the most dramatic increase. By contrast, the USA is expected to experience a more gradual growth in its ageing population.
From 1940 to around 1990, the proportion of seniors in Japan remained relatively stable, at just under 5%. However, this figure is projected to surge to almost 27% by 2040. Similarly, in Sweden, the percentage of people aged 65 or over is expected to climb steadily from 7% in 1940 to around 25% in 2040.
In the USA, the percentage of people aged 65 or above was slightly over 9% in 1940, and this is anticipated to rise moderately to approximately 14% by 2040. Despite this increase, the USA's elderly population will remain significantly lower than that of the other two nations.
