The pie diagrams illustrate the comparative consumption of various food items globally and in two specific nations, China and India, for the year 2008.
In a general sense, the worldwide consumption of food was dominated by grain, whereas China and India exhibited a preference for vegetables. The consumption of other food types was relatively lower in all three categories.
Examining the global figures, grain accounted for more than half of the total food intake, standing at 52%. Meat and vegetables made up a smaller proportion at 16% and 14% respectively, while the remaining 18% was shared equally between fruit and other foods.
In contrast, China and India had a higher percentage of vegetable consumption, with 32% and 34% respectively. Grain intake was slightly lower in China at 28% and significantly lower in India at 22%. Meat consumption was higher in China (26%) than in India (12%), while fruit intake was relatively similar in both countries. Other foods constituted the smallest portion of the diet in all three categories.
